Yesterday, I was even wondering, why they point out what the bible students did before 1914, since they don`t teach anymore, that before there was no FDS anyway. So no channel of God, how then did Russel come up with the 1914 prediction ?

By bible reading alone ? ridicolous....

just shows even more, how this new teaching of the FDS does not fit in at all in their own theology.

36 1/2 years was considered an average life back then? A Generation? Damn! So 1950?

The WT has always had on hand enough self contradictory information to be able to cherry pick its own writings to 'prove' whatever current take it has on any given subject.

"So, I have to ask myself, "Why would they encourage us to do something that would only expose their hypocrisy and lies?" The only reason I can figure that they would encourage the R&F to "examine our history" is that they know that you canNOT discovery their treachery without going to forbidden websites. In other words, they're calling your bluff. "

Bingo. 99 out of 100 witnesses will be content to just believe their claims as true. I mean....they HAVE to be true....this is God's organization! And the 1 out of 100 that decides to "make sure of all things" will be quickly dismissed via disfellowshipping for "being disrespectful to Christ's brothers". Win, win. We retained the vast majority through mind control and fear and we got rid of the vast minority that could have caused problems for us.

That which is crooked cannot be made straight. It's so hard for the good dubs. You have to understand what they were really teaching back then in order to spot the lies now. The vast number of R&F don't know. To make things worse, the publications are not available. Then we have the endless flood of propaganda from the WTBTS. Finally, the false premise of the WTBTS being the one true channel.

The above is totally true, and scary...

Since the October 1914 date for Jesus 'return' aka invisible second coming can be debunked. Then the follow up doctrine of the 31/2 wait until the selection and sealing of the 'annointed' is also false. Ergo,no 1914 then there can be no 1918 inspection and sealing of the 'anointed' so the entire Watchtower Bible and Tract Society doctrinal superstructure comes crashing down like a house of cards. .......This would mean that the Watchtower leaders the governing body are illegitimate.

I too have come to appreciate that back in the day, the Bible Students had different dates for events that are today rolled up into one date - 1914

Without checking the specifics, I know that the "Time of the End", "The Parousia" "The End of The Gentile Times" & Christ taking up his reigning power, all were seen as different events at different times. 1914 was expected to be the Kingdom and Armageddon , at the end of the Gentile times.

This gives wonderful scope for selective quotes that give the impression of a consistant message, when in fact nothing could be further from the truth.

Now, if numpties like us know this , I cannot believe that those smart , well informed guys in the writing dept. don't know it either. IMHO they must wish to mislead...

The WTS has actually printed that :

WT 2002 5/1 page 16 "Jehovah Hates the Course Of Treachery"

" However, we have reason for caution. We could miss the lessons that are implicit in Malachi 2:1-9. Are we personally alert, so that no unrighteousness is found on our lips? For example, can our family members really trust what we say? Can our spiritual brothers and sisters in the congregation do the same? It would be easy to develop the habit of couching one’s words in terms that are technically accurate but misleading. Or one might exaggerate or hide details in a business matter. Would Jehovah not see that? And if we followed such practices, would he accept sacrifices of praise from our lips?"

Would He indeed? I think NOT.

I'm not seeing the problem because the whole thing was vague. The whole article was vague.

Also, I don't see how people can criticize Russell and those back then. They did the best they could with what they had.

And I don't see those as prophesies since they were using the Bible as a guide. Prophesies require something to be original.

    Great find, BluesBrother!

This is exaclty what the WT writers have done in the WT statement referenced in the OP.

So by their own admission, they are guilty of treachery!
