So what is a JW's explanation on why animals grow old and die?....
Last time I checked, animals did not sin nor did they rebel against God...
So why do they have the same fate as humans?
Has anyone asked this question?

I asked an elder that very same question when I was a kid... His response:
CA, not everything is in the Bible or the Publications, but you can be sure that Adam's sin had something to do with it.
WTF ????
I was told they weren't created in Gods image .. not special..
for that matter why do plants?
The explanation I was given was that the animal creation was never intended to live forever. That even in the Garden, animals grew old and died. The reasoning was "how else would Adam have known what death was, when God told him he would die if he ate from the forbidden tree. Obviously, he saw animals die, so he knew what it meant."
Amazing what convoluted bunk you'll come up with when you try to treat myth like reality.
Animals are a food source, They have an invisable expiration date
take the chicken on the farm for example
When my mom was growin' up. Her mom never killed her old layin' hens.
They woulda been tough because they got past the tender stage to eat
Now as for the other animals that grow old and die that we did't eat
they get buried and turn to fertilizer, which can benefit somethin' else
The part about the chicken. That's true
As for the rest , Don't take my word , it's only an uneducated guess at best
I never claimed bein' a scholar
It also obliterates the idea that death was never a part of God's purpose. It absolutely was/is.
Look at what pleased God most with Cain and Abel's sacrifices-
Cain offered vegetables ( no blood was shed)- God didn't like it.
Abel killed animals = bloodshed/death. God liked it.
"how else would Adam have known what death was, when God told him he would die if he ate from the forbidden tree"
The same could be said about living forever. Since Adam had lived up till then for only a short while, the idea of living forever would be as foreign to him as death would be.
not everything is in the Bible or the Publications, but you can be sure that Adam's sin had something to do with it.
Uh huh. Moron Elder. So, not only do sons pay for their father's sins, apparently animals pay for human sins. What a lovely system.
bloodshed/death. God liked it.
You kinda get that impression throughout the whole OT. YHWH was not a nice fellow.
The answer to this question is simple.
Animals die because it is nature. Living things have a beginning and an end.
This is why humans also die, it is nature, and there is nothing that proves otherwise.
The only difference between animals and humans, is that humans are more intelligent and more self conscious. This does not equate to a longer life however. See trees that last hundreds of years...or tortoises for that matter.
Have you ever stared at a tortoise and realized 'you are most likely going to live longer than i am'?
Existentialists call this 'absurd', if an animal could talk it would tell you 'no, it's nature'.
Ever better, why did dinosaurs have bone disease, abscesses, and cancer?
Answer: Jehovah is testing our faith by making it appear as though disease is a natural consequence of life, and not sinful imperfection.
He can be quite the trickster
Not to derail this, but this thought comes to mind.
Based on an average 60 bpm our heart beats approx 31.5 million times in a year (let's take it up to 33 million for flights of stairs and masturbation).
It's amazing to me we live as long as we do, and life is short!
Why should animals be exempt? Screw them.
