Exactly. They've basically twisted what Jesus meant to mean an era or epoch.
Examples of ERA
- the era of the horse and buggy
- We're just now entering an era of great prosperity.
- His death marks the end of an era.
Examples of generations
- The Lost Generation, also known as the Generation of 1914 in Europe, [19] is a term originating with Gertrude Stein to describe those who fought in World War I. The members of the lost generation were typically born between 1883 and 1900.
- The Greatest Generation, also known as the G.I. Generation, is the generation that includes the veterans who fought in World War II. They were born from around 1901 through 1924, coming of age during the Great Depression. Journalist Tom Brokaw dubbed this the Greatest Generation in a book of the same name. [20]
- The Silent Generation, also known as the "Lucky Few", were born 1925 through 1942. It includes those who were too young to join the service during World War II. Yep, it's crap. The important thing to remember is that JEHOVAH(tm) has become King!! It's kind of confusing because he never really stopped being King, but then Jesus was made King in 1914, but now..now Jehovah is King. Err, mmm, yeah, that's it.

I am stunned by this article. They are putting themselves right back in the position they were with the original generation teaching, by adding an end date to the generation teaching. This new definition has, till now, been left vague enough to all it to run for quite some time, but the January article makes it clear that the overlapping ones are also advanced in years.

This is really trying to increase the urgency, based on the generation definition being a short period. It seems the current GB are trying to keep the status quo for how the organisation has always been, and then let the next lot of GB members have to pick up the pieces from the mess they leave behind.
Further, as you mention, there is no reason to conclude this generation applies to two groups of annointed. It is one of the more blatant examples of the Watchtower adding an interpretation that simply has no basis at all. I wonder how JWs will take it? They are walking dangerous ground dwelling on this teaching again.

The referent to "this generation" of Matthew 24:34 is Jesus' description of "this generation" in Matthew 23:33-39, which prompts the disciples question of, "When will these things (another referent to the same antecedent) be" in 24:3.
In WTspeak, "we understand" is a referent to the thought that 'This is what we believe.' If you don't, you are not one of US.'

So Jesus said "this generation" in Matt 23:33-39, which the GB believes has a secondary fulfillment made up of 2 groups of modern-day JW anointed. That's their referent for "this generation" in Matt 24:34. So the pre-concieved belief, dogma actually, of the WTBTS leaders is the "proof" that their current "understanding" is correct.
In other words, ' We belive that Jesus was talking about our current understanding of "generation", therefore, Jesus was talking about our current understanding. Otherwise, Jesus would not have mentioned our current understanding at Matt 23:33-39.'
It reminds me of something else:
