Letting go of Highly Qualified Men

Have you seen the requirements to be selected as a speaker at a DC?

One of the requirements is that your adult children, living outside the home, have to be in "good standing".

I.e., Joe Elder raises his children perfectly wonderfully, from a JW perspective - they all leave home by the age of 20. Now, say, 25 years later, son of Joe Elder gets DF'ed. And now Joe Elder is no longer qualified to give a DC talk.

I have a hunch that this is the leading edge of an even harder crackdown.

It's very odd - on the one hand they are virtually pleading & begging for more men to "reach out", then, once in, they seem to take great delight in trying to drive them out.

I know a few JW elders who have been given DC talks despite losing adult children, heck, our Convention chairman lost both his kids, one of them dfed. Still chairman.

If you have the right connections the rules w ill be ignored.

i think families of elders should be exemplary as they have prominent positions

Do the elders themselves also need to be "exemplary"? I have been posting here for 12 years and have been an elder the entire time. lol

The Local BOE is just an outgrowth of the parasitic center that is the Organization. I have never been an Elder, or an MS, but this is my observation based on experience and meeting people on this site. You are an Elder for 2 Reasons:

    1) You are a good person who believes you really have the truth, and you want to help people.

    2) You are a corporate yes-man who believes you have the truth, and you worship the GB.

One group tries to make a difference and does not last. That leaves only the second group running the show. This imbalance could lead to the disintergration of the Organization as we know it. Hopefully it will.

Coming out of lurkdom to post my 2cents.

I have never understood why an elder was removed or had to step down because of his children(even adult) children's failings, especially when he'd tried his best to raise his kids in the right way, but they rebelled anyway.

If we were to strictly follow this rule, then God would not qualify to be worshipped because his perfect children disobeyed. He could actually be seen as a bad example of a father. And we have biblical examples,e.g DAVID who would have had to step down from their positions since their families were not exemplary.

On the other hand, I didn't mind when egostiscal elders or ones who strained the gnat had to step down

SaritaJ - That organization is all about the visual. There is nothing spiritual as one would say there. Appearances are everything.

I always turn to the example of the old Jersey City Assembly Hall caretaker in these situations to prove that there is no spirit of god with this group and that what is on the outside is all that matters.

They guy ran a freaking JW landmark and had all types of debaichery going on for years. Somehow GOD never knew for years and had no real desire to stop the defiling of this holy place. Then the brothers find out and all of a sudden heads roll. Only yeeeeeeeeeeeeears afdter these things were going on.

As long as you can keep yourself looking clean on the outside that is all that matters to them

This is very subjective. One of our circuit's/district's most prominent speakers has five adult children (all at least 30s) of which 1 is DFd, 1 long-time fader, 1 weak who goes along with zealous wife, 1 pioneer daughter, 1 fireball elder son. He is used extensively, even Sub-CO. Not considered responsible for what decisions his children made later in life. Obviously, he doesn't get any talks on raising a family.

He is totally a Company Man. Genuflects at the feet of the COs/DOs.

I think the "adult children outside the home in good standing" requirement is new this year.

At least, I don't remember seeing it in print in years past.
