Data-Dog - "This imbalance could lead to the disintergration of the Organization as we know it."

    Not by itself.

But it's definately contributing, along with all the other little things wrong with the Org...

Tech49 - "I spent some time recently with a very good friend, currently serving as a COBE in another nearby congregation. One of the VERY few people I would ever confide my feeling to. Over a few beers, I laid it all out, from A to Z, from beginning to end. I waited anxiously for grand words of wisdom, for the spirit to move the conversation, to feel the hand of a spiritual father. His response was one that caught me completely off guard, and at the same time explained everything, and lent credibility to it all.

"Jack,I understand completely.... I just want to move far away, just me and the wife. Mexico maybe. The coast. I want to wear bermuda shorts, and fish in the ocean. Every day, every single day. And nothing else. I am sick and tired of all the politics, the backstabbing, the complaining, the drudgery of it all. We already have a plan in place, and will be there within 2-3 years, we haven't told anyone, but its where we will be....... wanna come visit?"

I was aghast, yet strangely vindicated. He was awake, he too could hear the sunrise of a new day."

That's one of the best anecdotes I've ever read here.

    Thanks losing it.

Confusedandalone, I agree. JWS are about the visual. There are many non-exemplary men serving simply because they are keeping up appeances.

Desirousofchange, regarding the example you have given, from what I have seen, it often depends on if you are good friends with the CO,DO,COBE etc. If you are, then your deficiences(children not exemplary) can be overlooked. There are many good men that have been sidelined simlpy because someone in the BO had a personal grudge. I stopped believing(I am embarrassed that I did) that holy spirit has anything to do with appointments or assignments in the WTS.

From what I can see, men are being accelerated to positions of responsibility before they are ready, while they are still manipulable, and before they can pick up too much baggage. That's because the older men are tired or dropping off. There's a definite shortage and it is even worse in rural areas.

I'd say so, Vidiot. And think of all the highly qualified women just laying around vaccuming carpets and scrubbing toilets.

I have found that most "highly qualified men" can remain in their positions as long as they have the support of the elder body they serve with. I recall a CO that traveled through a congregation I was in and he apparently decided that one of the elders simply did not qualify because his oldest kid, an adult, had rejected the "truth." I don't believe he knew the circumstances. It appeared that he simply wanted him out. He apparently wrote his letter along with his report and the elder body reportedly wrote one to rebut his position. He remained an elder.

I would imagine that if there was a finger pointer among the group, the elder would have been deleted. But, we all saw the wisdom of the "cast the first stone" portion of the Bible.

I know where an elder a year ago was removed because of disciplinary action being taken on his 2 sons. Today his sons are being used in the cong., but the former elder is a nobody. He was a good elder. How sad that he was removed, as well as many others.

On my post 974 I said

i think most elders i've known don't mind giving the lesser one a good kicking so to speak.

This probably is not the best way to express what I mean. My experience with elders over the years was not good.

As an example on one occasion when I was depressed rather than talk to me the body of elders felt it would be better for the circuit overseer to mention something in his talk to the congregation. It clearly identified me in a very negative way. Being depressed and shown as doing something wrong in front of large congregation wasn't the best way to handle it although they told me afterward they thought it was. None of the elders had spoken to me before the meeting although they had weeks to do it. At first some elders denied it had even been discussed at their meeting with the co.

I could give other examples but I won't. I never found a lot of difference between elders. However I'm sure others did and no doubt it can be a difficult job.

Confusedandalone= assembly hall caretaker, that is another scandal that I knew nothing about.

To everyone else= I knew an elder that was removed because of his kids. Ok I will admit that the guy had a bit of a black and white attitude. But with in about 12 months after the event. He nearly lost his business due to not been able to fulfill contracts because he had employed to many witness who pulled the plug on him. His wife left him. And the gossip mill started circulating about what a hard man he was.
