I accept that science cannot prove the non-existence of God. But . . .

"Problems your god won't lift a finger to address"

"god" is too general. For the basic Abrahamic God concept I recommend "How To
Think About God," M.Adler: an eternal, necessary, exnihilating/sustaining/what-
evering behind it all.... before adding any names or interventions.

Everything listed in the first post is taken into account by a liberal
Abrahamic outlook. The first several are rejected as conservative (including JWs
leaders) stipulations and the next few are matters of faith understood as such
about a possible God beyond the known things.

I'm not a fan of those claiming they can prove God is or isn't. They're both
wrong and either can lead to law of the land and people getting hurt over some-
thing I don't see the justification of anyone being hurt or killed about. I'd
recommend a choice to have or not have faith--hope--in a possible God beyond the
    known things.

Keep up to speed about the known--if He's there, it wouldn't honor Him to mis-
inform in His name. And because it's a possible, not proven, God, there
shouldn't be hurting or killing about it because it would be arbitrary hurting
    and killing--sadism and murder.

In all my years of debating this issue I have never encountered anybody who claimed they could prove there is no god.

It would be very foolish of anybody to claim they could "prove" there is no god.

It is an unfalsifiable hypothesis which ought to give us pause.

I have encountered such a person. On this forum, no less. The issue was dropped quickly enough, and i won't name the person. No, it was not Cofty. But I am saying no more than that, lol.

Then that person was wrong. How can a claim about the reality of an invisible being ever be proven false?

Its not about proof, its about evidence and our willingness to be rational.

There is zero evidence for theism and overwhelmingly compelling evidence against it.

    Proof is not necessary.

Well, we will agree to disagree on there being evidence for God. Certainly there are some who see and/or possess overwhelmingly compelling evidence FOR God. Some who do not. Sometimes this depends upon what a person is willing to accept AS evidence, and sometimes that depends upon what a person WANTS to see... or not see. But you and I have been down that road many times.

But yes, of course that person was wrong, and I think realized that quite quickly. I am sure that there are others who make such claims, until they try to prove their claim, at least.

Only people who have no evidence feel the need to redefine the word.

Oddly enough, there ARE different kinds of evidence, some scientific, some testimonial, some direct, some circumstantial, etc, etc. I certainly did not make THAT up.
