@lisa - I also prefer reality. When it comes to claiming 'natural causes' are responsible for climate change, I think that deserves more exploration.

Global warming is the rise in the average temperature of Earth's atmosphere and oceans since the late 19th century and its projected continuation
Climate change is a significant and lasting change in the statistical distribution of weather patterns over periods ranging from decades to millions of years.
Easy to get buried in the detail of the difference, but for all practical purposes the terms can be used interchangably.

Besty I agree that the terms are interchangable. However the ignorant tend to forget that climate change can result in changes in ocean currents which in turn may result in some geographical regions seeing a sharp reduction in temperatures. For example the UK is warmer than its lattitude suggests due to the North Atlantic Drift bringing warm ocean currents to the west. This current is at risk of slowing down as ice caps melt and salinity decreases. If this happens our winters will be much colder and the ignorant will state "see it isn't global warining our winters are colder".

agreed cantleave - there is a "its snowing near my house" approach to climate change from some folks.
in this case the OP is leading with global warming and I'm happy to go with that.
climate change was of course famously recommended as the preferred term over global warming by the Republican spindoctor Frank Luntz back in 2003 - lambsbottom obviously never got the Luntz memo - which can you read in the link below

@kurtbethel - are you making a comparison between a doomsday cult that have never been right and 97% of climate scientists?
kurt - I dont know who you are or where you are from, but the major problem with public perception of climate change is the source of their information. Most of the general public take their viewpoint from their preferred media outlet, not from scientific consensus.
And for 25% of Americans that means they deny reality. I guess its a bit like JW's who take their viewpoint from the WTS, not from reality.
