If the GB reinstated the Book study, would it take?

I have been noticing in recent threads that people have been observing that the zeal has been waning among R+F JWs. I have observed that most zealous, die hards have gone to foreign lands, or foreign language congregations, leaving the others in the stagnant english congregations. WHen you think of it, if you cared at all about bringing people into the cult, you probably would be preaching where it is fertile, the foreign field.

I was wondering if the GB might reintate the Bookstudy, maybe to get a tighter rein on things. Is this possible? If they do it do you think the JWs would even go for long once they have had a taste of one extra evening?

The book study was always the most poorly supported meeting (or at least it was our circuit), I think if it was reintroduced it would, after a honeymoon period, return to the poorest attended meeting.

I loved the book study. But most of the time I felt I was the only one.

The JW's need a new Armaggedon date. What's a doomsday cult without a doomsday date? That would fire the JW zeal back up. After all the past failures, what do they have to lose coming out with a new date like 1975 again?

I know several that still bemoan the loss of the book study and would welcome it . Others, no doubt would miss their Tuesday night at home. Whatever the leadership did, they would all accept it after a while and tell each other how good it was, whatever they felt deep down.

Mind you , it would have to be something more meaningful than that damned comic of a brochure they rush through at the current mid-week meeting. They have the nerve to call that a Bible study !

I hated the book study, absolutely detested it. Ughghghgh, the thought of it gives me the creeps.

The only thing I miss were the goodie nights! Those got poo pooed too though. They really hate fun.

Old timers would probably like it.

The new generation would be absolutely pissed and protest by rarely attending.

No way. It was always the least "controlled" of all the weekly meetings. So, if they want to increase control over the rank and file, re-instituting the book study would be among the last things they'd do.

AlphaMan--couldn't agree more. Pick a date, tie it to some ridiculous "Bible" chronology multiplication formula with "overlapping" numbers, throw a dart at the calendar, get all JW's hyped up BUT don't be too specific. JW's NEED a date for 7 to 8 million non-JW's to be bird meat.
