its a HUGE fear of mine. I highly doubt they will do this, but all it takes is for a GB top dog to drop dead and just as everytime a president died, a whole bunch of shit changes.

If a new GB prez loves the book study and sees it as the key to control the R&F, it will come back

Except for the oldie lonelies (30% of some congs mind) the midweek meeting is just a busy drain on busy people - nothing is done well, all a rush. Reinstate the book study in a home and drop the mid week meeting would be better. Bingo! Ain't gonna happen though. Not enough control.

I am glad it's gone. It gives a few more days for the cultist to think for themselves. I also see the opportunity for "Unbelieving Mates" like me to institute more independent thinking through our own personalized "family study" night.

The "Book Study was always touted as the most important meeting you could go to..

Thats the place you would meet when the Great tribulation came..

Thats where you would get special WBT$ instructions..

As a kid I was hoping you`d get a special WBT$ decoder ring too!..

I don't see a reason for the book study to return. If it was eliminated due to possible legal liability then it will stay dead. The mandatory donations for the magazines are dead forever also, never to return. The congregations exists to benefit the Watchtower Society and not the other way around. The corporation existed before Jehovah's Witnesses became a distinct religion. They like to make us think that the Governing Body runs the show but they do not anymore the way they did before 2000. If any policy they wanted to institute would seriously affect the "cash flow" then I am sure it would be squished but we would never know about it.

^^^^I was wondering that same thing. Most likely just a brief moment of authenticity. SFTW, I actually thought the book study was a better alternative to the ministry school and service meeting. I think attendance would have gone way up if they abolished the larger meeting that is difficult to attend in the middle of the week, rather than the one that most closely mimics what the primative Christians actually did!

They won't bring it back. No question. Family study night, has taken root in the volcabulary and the talk cycles. Its a done deal.

who knows - i would doubt it. if you were with a fun group of people it was nice - but if you were with a bunch of boring dopes it was totally dreadful. and the last thing i ever wanted was to stuff cupcakes down my gullet then go home to bed......eeewwwww.....so unhealthy to eat empty calories that late at night. and the poor souls who were assigned to the hall studies never got their treats....boohoo.

Official word: Like the do-do bird, the Book Study has gone forever. Some would say, it is a jolly good start.

They should reinstate it and study "Revelation--It's Bland Climax at Hand!".

Then it's time to study "Making Your Family Life Dreary". Nothing like having a study about family when only a really ancient couple and a single middle-aged sister are the only ones there.
