The destruction of Nineveh as prophesied by Jonah failed. According to the record, the people of Nineveh repented and Jehovah did not destroy them.
Perhaps it is the same today. The destruction of this old system of things as prophesied by JWs, has failed to occur. Perhaps Jehovah as seen it fit not to destroy 7 billion humans (but forgot to tell F&DS).

The text in Revelation 17:4 throught 18:17 is applied to Rome. While it matches in many details (sits on seven hills or mountains-17:9) with this capital of the Roman Empire, it was never depopulated, or leveled. Visigoths, Vandals, and Justinian looted the city for good, but Rome never cased to be a city, it was since the late antiquity the seat of the Roman Catholic church. Therefore, the prophecy from Revelation has not yet been fullfilled and clearly Rome today does not have such far reaching power it had around 125 AD.
