did not know there was information suppression Simon
What is that supposed to mean? How am I suppressing information?
If I see people promoting something that is DANGEROUS to those who may not realise it, I am allowed to say 'not here'.

It is your group Mr. Simon . You have saved lives with your forum . Thats a fact.
You of course can do what you think is best. I defer to you . I was just trying to deceminate info.
I have NO reason to promote this. I have promoted JWn all over the net .
I get thank you emails every week for pointing people to info .
Are things going ok for you?
I just wish people were honest about the risks rather than appearing to be authoratitive on security and claiming things are safe when they are not or they don't really know. I'm not blaming you wtfree, just the situation.
There are lots of people who are maybe more trusting / naive / unsophisticated with computersvand can be put at risk. Its clear that the last time this happened the person behind it knew it wasn't secure because they used a fake facebook identity while giving assurances of safety to everyone else. I just find it disturbing that this happens.
If I were the WTS I'd be all over Facebook setting up groups to find out who needs the boot.
Yes, kudos to Simon and the other members who are speaking up, for protecting forumgoers. It's one thing to advertise a group for people who are out of the closet and want to join, but to advertise it as safe is very irresponsible. Using a throwaway identity is a good suggestion, but not everyone is savvy enough to do this safely.
Its is against FB policy to create fake accounts:

Registration and Account Security
Facebook users provide their real names and information, and we need your help to keep it that way. Here are some commitments you make to us relating to registering and maintaining the security of your account:
If you find you real identity account disabled and you are banned from Facebook for violating their policies just to use a fake identity to participate in a crappy group that wont be around this time next month its your own fault.
Just sayin...

don't use JWN to promote shitty facebook groups that haven't got a clue about security, and please don't tell people to create fake accounts on facebook to use those shitty groups.
that's really poor advice.
Thank you.
Oops, I didn't think about the terms of service, good point besty.
Watchtower free , it is irresponsible to announce that a facebook page is completely safe to join. The massive problems with facebook accounts privacy have been in the media quite a few tiimes. Now anyone who does not mind thier identity known, then all is good to join. But as the they say, anything out on tne net, emails etc is public. Even this site can carry a risk. Though Simon has a much better track record than facebook that is for sure!
People must be honest when announcing safety. A secret page is much better than a public one, but it is NOT keeping your identity safe on facebook. ( I wish it did though)
I admiire those who want to reach out and provide safe avenues to connect. But it is responsible to make sure that the avenues are accuratly represented as safe as possible, and it is well known public knowladge that facebook is just not secure.
Facebook is sooooo last year. You will find lots of young people no longer use it, 'coz Mom pops in with a friend request, and that just ain't kule.
Plus Mom or Dad can see just who you are hangin' with.
So this new group is almost as behind the times as the WT itself.
Secret pages only work if no one tells anyone about them. They are really meant for things like family announcements where the only people interested in being a member would be invited and they would not invite others.
They are not meant for 'secret activity' type stuff. I think people just see the word 'secret' and think "that's good enough for me!" without taking the time to really investigate how secure things are.
Ultimately, sites like facebook are all about sharing as much as possible and linking things to real people - goals that are completely at odds with the needs of JW faders.
