Match the quote with the cult leader ... or perhaps it applies to all.

When “the Assyrian” attacks, the elders must be absolutely convinced that Almighty God will deliver us. At that time, the life-saving direction that we receive from God's channel may not appear practical from a human standpoint. All of us must be ready to obey any instructions we may receive, whether these appear sound from a strategic or human standpoint or not. Now is not the time to put your trust in anything this world has to offer. We all must be ready to help any who may now be wavering in faith.

DesirousOfChange >>> What % of JWs remember Jonestown 35 years ago?

    .

Possibly not too many . . . but the new kids can look it up on WOL

The 1995 nerve-gas attack in a Tokyo subway; the Jonestown , Guyana, mass suicide; and the deaths in Switzerland, Canada, and France of 69 members of the Order of the Solar Temple were all cult inspired. These examples illustrate the powerful influence that certain groups have had on the thinking of some people. Charismatic leaders have got people to do the “unthinkable” by tempting them with some supposed benefit. < g03 7/8 pp. 5-9 >

Who knows what the WTBTS teachings will morph into in half a century's time?

Who will guarantee they won't end up like the above mentioned? By jogging scriptures the way they want them to go?

Hey when you got a bunch of indoctrinated old farts steering this printing corporation and they have free reign over what gets published by it,, no telling what direction and how far they may go, but it does seem to be a little bit in the suicide direction with the "obey us even if it seems foolish in the elders eyes" directive. It is a blatant call to suspend critical judgements and just obey and these old codgers think getting a higher education is being satanic because they loose devotees over this thing called "higher education" they don't like anything higher than beleif that they are God's organization and they must be listen to and obeyed.

People stop drinking WT koolaide!! is a wise directive to follow now!

They admit they aren't spirit inspired anyway so how is their opinion going to help anyone? So far lawyers have been keeping them safe from the assyrians , later when the 666 beast takes over will be interesting to see who and how they avoid the mark , right now we know the WTBTS experimented with refusal to pay 25 cents for a political card in rowanda where many people were executed , their lawyers were not able to do much there nor in the former soviet republic of georgia where people were attacked and churches burned down , they don't have a plan in those areas , basically endure until the end is the cry they will make .This whole eder thing may be about keeping up with where meetings are going to be held in secret , the elders I've known I wouldn't trust with my life at all they are complete nit wits , they are prone to say all sorts of idiotic nonsense .

I think it is the most disturbing thing the Watchtower has said in my lifetime.

I agree with COFTY. This article sends chills up my spine

I talked about the article and Jonestown with my wife, and she really did "get it." I think it frightened her, too - not that JWs would carry out a mass suicide - but that the thinking pattern (actually the supression of any rational thinking) is what makes a Jonestown possible at all. . . and here it is in black-and-white in a study article.

I'm soooooooo happy that I left that cult.....and thankful that my daughter did too! She was actually out mentally a year before I was but was afraid to tell me. I figured it out all on my own and now we are a HappyDad and daughter.
