My sister was invited to a Judicial Committee

Today I called to my sister and she told me that two elders went to her house to announce her that a judicial committe is waiting her in the kingdom hall this friday.  She told them that she will confirm if she will go. However, I have told her that she shouldn't go, instead she should ask them to write a formal letter, with signatures,  asking her for which charges she should be submitted in a private room with two men (or three?) in a judicial committee. If they don't want to write it, it means that they don't want to produce any prove of their intimidatory practices.

Of course, my sister  most probably is being judged for apostasy. But I don't want her to be humiliated by attending such stupid committee.

    Any thoughts?

    What outcome does she want?

If she wants to be DF'ed or doesn't care, just don't show up.

If she wants to avoid that outcome, she should "lawyer up". There are numerous sample letters on this forum which were written & worked to get the elders to step back, on occasion permanently.

Either way, it sounds like she shouldn't go.

I would't go. It's not a court case and these elders have no power over anybody!

She does not want to be disfellowshipped because she wants to continue to talk with other witnesses, but she no longer attends the meetings, because she does not believe anymore in Borg......And yes, may be if she mentions them  that she will ask an attorney, they will be scared.

Well yes, they will be scared, and they will also stop the proceedings immediately.

It's in the elders manual - if the person to be DF'ed hires an attorney, the elders are to stop the entire procedure, call the WT Legal department, and wait for instruction.

What sir82 says is true.  There is, however, an another way to deal with it, a cheaper one.

Go ahead and go. If its only two its not a judicial committee, they are "investigating".  She can sit down and lie to their mizerable faces. They will have no proof. There will be no committee. I stopped feeling bad about lying to this org right around the time i realized there was no panda waiting for me in paradise.

...but they told her that it will be a judicial committe with ad hoc named elders....

Perhaps they will have a third waiting then, but the principle remains the same. If she is willing to lie and play good girl for an hour in front of them then they have nothing to df her on

Another addendum to the elders manual is they are not to pursue judicial action against people who threaten suicide.

Tell your sister to write a letter saying that the very thought of such a meeting makes her feel suicidal and she is going for therapy and will let them know how she is.

(dont ever get back with them)

OR - if your sister happens to be seeing a therapist currently, have the therapist write a letter stating that the person is "too fragile" for this meeting at the present time.

I know someone who did this - worked like a charm.

I'd tell em...."I'll be there but make sure there is an extra chair for my legal representation. I have a 2 witness rule too."  I agree....Lawyer up (they do!).

Bet you $50 bucks they don't bother her again.
