this thing about witnesses at the hearing... is there anything in the Bible about who is allowed to be witnesses? Surely there must be something about the accused having witnesses also? At least two!

It says that "attorneys are not permitted to represent individuals". It doesn't say anything about having someone there for moral support!

Nathan, I think you should still send it to those other ones, even though I already did it. The more "hits" they get from it, maybe the more likely they will do something with it.
I ran out of time this morning, so could only do a few.
Just a thought.

Maybe someone can post the relevant section from the elder's handbook?
I seem to recall that you can bring witnessess, but they can only be in the same room with the body just for THEIR testimony, then they must leave, and the next one come in and so on.
But that's just my recollection.
Emailed to a few local newspapers and faxed to all local stations! I really hope it gets printed or broadcast here in my neck of the woods.
Witnesses relevant to the matter at hand can be brought to the JC. Generally they will have to wait OUTSIDE the room where the JC is being conducted and will be brought in if and when they are necessary, and then they will be dismissed.
Likely the only witnesses the Society is concerned about are those who are witnesses to statements made by Bill and the other accused. You can be sure the Society will have their "false witnesses".
Witnesses on Bill's or the other accused's side are ultimately irrelavant and will not likely be called for their testimony because it will not likely counter the "causing divisions" charge. How can witnesses counter such a charge at all? Only witnesses for the Society will be relavant and I'm sure they will have these and other evidence. The Society would not be proceeding if this was not stacked in their favour.
Again, from the Society's perspective this whole "trial" will have absolutely nothing to do with child abuse and the accused can talk until they are blue in the face and present a mountain of evidence and people that were legitamately treated improperly by this organization and it won't change the fact that in their eyes Bill and the others are "causing divisions".
Basically you can't "win" this thing by going to the JC. It has to be won in the eyes of the public, or perhaps legally. But the victory will ultimately be a personal one and it always is when you stand up and do the right thing.

I appreciate the efforts of many in support of getting the word out on this issue. I am sure the Pandelo family are feeling they have friends in many places as well as Barb. Keep it up and remember the letters to WT and the local BOE as it should also be helpful. Wednesday more will follow and I dare say Brother Brown has had a chance to sit down today. What does that mean? Stay tuned.
Maybe it's time for a different pre-emptive strike as well.
For all of us who are out but not df'd or da'd we could take Bill Bowen's well written press release, print it out on some nice paper and mail the copies to each and every one of our former brothers and sisters, especially those that want out but can't due to family ties and the fear of the pain they would experience leaving the only thing they know.
Perhaps we could begin the letter with our own feelings and concerns for the poor souls still caught up in the Lie.

I already sent a copy to my brother... his response: "none the less, apostate" [8>]

As a reminder, attorneys are not permitted at congregation judicial meetings.
Very odd line to include in a letter notifying one of a Judicial Hearing. Page 110 of the Elders Manual states, "However, observers are not permitted."
You don't think they may be a little nervous about their course of action, do you? Maybe they honestly feel they have intimidated?
