Doesn't the ARMAGEDDON teaching foster a MORBID view of the future?

If that's what you believe then , I think you were not understanding what it is about and they were'nt teaching it correctly . Revelation 16 is where the word appears and only 1 time , it appears to be a spiritual battle located on a fictional battle ground where the church and the state are stuggling over the preaching work and the state attacks the church . Not until 19 does anything really happen when jesus destroys all world governments but if we look at Daniel 11-12 you see why , it's because the king of north and south have all but destroyed the planet over global dominance ...IMO

In the movie, the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, at different scenes throughout the movie, Blondie and Tuco say to each other under different circumstances: "There are two kinds of people in the world my friend..." The Bible seems to teach the same thing: God's friends and the enemies of God's friends are the two classes of people in the world. Armageddon is about: Who will God fight for? Friends of God need not fear.

    Great thread!

if anyone was unfortunate enough to sit through this weeks book study, then this self serving, higher than thou attitude of witnesses was even more noticeable...

"god will destroy everyone except us!"

The WTS likes to use the words "wickedness" or "corruption" rather than "the wicked" and "the corrupt." They would rather you not visualize people dying but inanimate things as if there could be wickedness without people.

    wicked world

    Satan's earthly organization

    *** wt chap. 21 p. 188 par. 11 Jehovah’s Purpose Attains Glorious Success ***

After the great tribulation, with its Armageddon climax, has cleansed the earth of wickedness, no longer will Satan the Devil be “the god of this system of things.” No longer will worshipers of Jehovah have to contend with Satan’s vile influence.

    *** w12 9/15 p. 7 par. 17 How This World Will Come to an End ***

We look forward to seeing how the saying of “Peace and security!” will come about. Then we will witness the destruction of Babylon the Great, the attack by Gog of Magog, the battle of Armageddon, and the hurling into the abyss of Satan and his demons. After these events, when all wickedness is gone, we will enter a new chapter in life—Christ’s Millennial Reign, during which we will enjoy an “abundance of peace.”—Ps. 37:10, 11.

    *** w07 2/1 p. 31 Questions From Readers ***

The war of Har–Magedon will rid the earth of all corruption and wickedness. It will open the way for the most glorious era in all human history. (Revelation 21:1-4) Under the loving oversight of God’s Kingdom, the earth will be transformed into a paradise in which righteous ones will live forever.—Psalm 37:29.

    *** w97 4/15 p. 17 par. 11 Seek True Peace and Pursue It! ***

Why will this radical change in the world picture take place? Because Jehovah has promised that he will cleanse the earth of all those who are polluting and ruining it. (Revelation 11:18) This transformation will take place at Jehovah’s righteous war against Satan and his wicked world.

    *** w90 5/15 p. 7 Armageddon—When? ***

Armageddon will remove the last vestige of Satan’s earthly organization.

    Good observation Blondie!

Yes it is a lot easier for witnesses to accept mass murder if they dont think of it as "Joe or Mary and little Cindy from next door who always feed our dog for us when we are away"...or similar PERSONALISED characters or REAL people....

This morbid view also causes Witnesses to live like a "cowering dog" in their own lives...scared of the big nasty person who has a raised hand in the air ready to belt us!

Yes. So does the over simplified "great tribulation" recipe. Morbidity inspires fear, as does lack of reliable information. So JWs are in a sort of limbo whose bewilderment will come in the next global transition. It will be tribulatory, but it resolves, and it does not end into the "end of the world", and in those final years of accelerated financial globalization, that oversimplified Bethel recipe of the end, will instead aid the bewilderment in the JW sector of global influence, because it will go on for years towards a world recovery, not "the end". The less people know, the better for the powers that be, and the powers that be their ruler, abd JWs aid that overall misinformation complex.

It is those ensuing years with no JW "armageddon", is when the real Bethel effect on the JW mind will climax. The org is guaranteed to implode financially, and maybe 2/3 of current JWs will falter in the process of the first three years of that period's commencement.

My point is JW theology is engineered to control JWs now with fear, and later with absolute confusion and pandemonium, abandonement, and betrayal engineered by the leaders they venerate. It is designed, and it's design can not only be reverse engineered, it can be proven in other ways relating to a common global misinformation complex to achieve the same objective, in different segments of the worl population, in varying ways, towards the same goal. The global trend is what is guiding all the leaves in this river, and though the falls are up ahead, so is the oasis after the temporary plunge.

But will Jehovah's witnesses current engineered false expectations allow them to surface? Not all of them will emerge, IMO, very few. It's not a straw coming down on the JW Camel back, it is the whole Bethel beanstalk.

I always tried to beautify the horrible bad news of Gods Armageddon when I was yet a silent lamb. I began to think really "indepently":
"Should not Christians overemphazise developping a communion with God without Armageddon fear?"

A year ago I met a witness mother (she speaks always with me, because I know her since age 13) : she tries to avoid the study articles
about armageddon because her daughters are very afraid of that matter. Sadly.

No matter how cruel the texting of the Watchtower study articles might by or how horrible the WT Cover might be
our mind has been manipulated to construct always sophisticated answers or excuses for all bad and unchristian=unmerciful Armageddon stuff
"But somehow People have to be awakened, Wonderofyou, wouldn't you agree?"

The latest invention is the argument that Armageddon is not a war of men but by God (as this would be better).

But does the end justifies the means really, you sheperds?

I was at a JW party in Los Angeles in the late 60s and one of the games we played was to draw anything we wanted,

What a lame party! I remember those JW "gatherings", they were a total drag.

Armageddon always upset me. I never thought I would be good enough. Everyone I liked in the world would be destroyed. I felt this way in kindergarten and preschool. It is beyond me how JWs, not critical thinkers but often decent people, can want Armageddon to happen. Particularly during the Cold War, and the Cuban Missle Crisis, it seemed as tho some sort of Armageddon would happen. Perhaps I was at an impressionable age. How can you live on paradise earth when you are burying dead people. Every law of nature would need suspension for the living not to be wiped out by disease and trauma.
