Is Anything Worth Dying For?

I often hear people here talk about the horrible JW willingness to die for blood transfusions. Maybe JWs are mistaken when it comes to the BT issue; maybe not. However I wonder if there is anything that is really worth dying for in this life.

For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. Don't get me wrong. I do not have some type of death wish. But I think some things are worth being persecuted for and even dying for--in this life. Do you all think that a person should preserve her present life at all cost?

I will now shut up so that I will not be called a troll, whatever that is.

    Hilda,

Are you going to tell us that you not willing to die in the name of Christ?

    Dear Fred:

I will gladly die in the name of Christ and Yahweh. I thus do not fault JWs if they think they need to die to be loyal to God.

Life is something that should be valued. The main purpose of most religion is to devalue "this" life - the only life we know - in favour of some future life. The effects of this approach vary from people being able to cope better with the death of loved ones, to people flying planes into skyscrapers.
Without valuing our lives - this life - we can have no real values.

Okay, you're baiting. And YES, you are a TROLL. You set up this question:

For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. Don't get me wrong. I do not have some type of death wish. But I think some things are worth being persecuted for and even dying for--in this life. Do you all think that a person should preserve her present life at all cost?
You asked a very VAGUE question. Either that, the way you set up your post was in poor form.

You asked: "Do you ALL (pointing to the current posters of this board as a "collective") think that a person should preserve HER(singular---the "subject" is yourself) present life at all cost?

I've read your other post. Either you are:

    A) a "young" JW (by association or baptism) trying to pass off as someone who is not a JW.

    B) A very coy former poster trying to throw your usual troll stuff in
    to the mix.

    C) FredHall having a conversation with their self.

But one thing is certain...you are a TROLL.

    D8TA:

:Clarify this a bit more. This is a self application question. The opinions and one's search for decisions in one's existence, relies entirely upon the person whom is living their existence.

You asked: "Do you ALL (are you percieving this board as a "collective"?) think that a person should preserve her(your singular reference to yourself) present life at all cost?:

My use of the word "all" does not imply that I think this board is a collective. I was merely trying to elicit the opinion of all on this board who are willing to answer. My use of the singular pronoun "her" is an example of a generic reference. I am not in favor of the patriarchal use of "he" or "him" as a generic word.

:In basic, you are looking to a collective opinion on your current situation? Are you asking the "mob" for opinion on your point of view? Or, are you asking a general question, which pertains to each individuals opinion?:

No I am not looking to a collective opinion on my situation. My question is general. I just want to see if anyone here thinks that there is anything in this world that one should be willing to lay down her life for, my dear.

    Hi Hilda,

Your question didn't strike me as trollish. I think freedom is worth dying for. If I had the choice let's say of living under the rule of an oppressive, cruel religion or government, or die fighting for a better way of life for myself and my children I would chose to fight and possibly lose my life rather than live let's say as women are forced to live under Taliban rule or some other such nonsense that goes on in the less enlightened societies on this planet.

I strongly disagree however that it is sensible or proper to throw away ones life in order to remain 'loyal' to a deity. The idea is absurd to me and very hyprocritical of religions who go around spouting how sacred life is and yet how horrible it is at the same time. Either you see life as a gift from God that should be cherished, or you see it as a punishment from God that should be endured until it's over and you get something better as a reward for your sacrifice. Either way throwing in the towel over a blood transfusion is obscene.

I do, however defend that everyone has a right to live their lives or die as they see fit. If someone truly believes they must allow themselves to die to remain loyal to their god, that's their business entirely. I object when they feel they have to make that decision for their children - allowing them to die to keep them somehow 'pure' for God's sake is not the act of a decent parent.

just my 2 cents, not intended to offend anybody,
