I always love reading the stories of the fine people on this forum.

I have a slightly different personality.....I'm an all in or all out guy.....and I didn't care what anyone thought. After serving for an elder for well over a decade, people are still shocked to learn I walked away. They have left me alone. I didn't purposefully fade, but I dared them to follow me.

    Nothing.

I was never officially announce anywhere but I'm more than open to those I run into years later that they are in a man made cult. I could care less.

It's funny that I still get requests to connect on LinkedIn or Facebook (when I had one).......it doesn't seem to stop JW's......they still see me as that popular elder guy.......but alas, I'm definitely not.

    1. JW religion breaks families appart as a proof of their choosen status. They pride themselves for choosing religion over having strong family bonds
    2. JW does not prepare individuals for usefull skills for the community. There is no support for education, trade, skills, and hobbies. How would JW manage running Jesus kingdom when half of them are illiterate, do not know calculus or physics, cannot operate machinery?
    3. The entire effort and free time is dedicated in distributing their publication. This does not leave any money, effort, desires, and needs for charity, social services, and welfare of their members
    4. JW religion never accepts responsibility for anything, for their failed prophecies, pedophile scandals, stealing funds, and misuse of the KH property for personal use
    5. JW does care about well being of its members, as the community and WT needs supercedes the needs of individuals.

In Czech Republic JW and Bethel was engaged in illegal money laundering, stealing of funds, taking loans without paying them back, running brothels, etc. It was investigated and prosecuted by Czech police, and Brooklyn only shuffled couple elders around and DFs two or three. It was also published in the Czech media. The JW community instead cleaning their barn and pig stay roared that they being attacked by Satan and that the end was in the hands as a proof of the Tribulation. Yet everyone in the KH knew that the elders were stealing money. My cousins borrowed money from the banks and engaged in tax and banking fraud until police were after them. They though that the Armageddon will come sooner before their loans would be due. They are still elders because they produces bunch of children who made with their inlaws half of the KH in the city. My former KH has tax lien on it, it is virtually bancrupted, yet the elders and the DO drives Audi, Mercedez-Benz, and other expensive cars. They ask members for duing their laundry, cleaning, and cooking or taking them into expensive restaurants; and they justify that the elders are busy to do field work and need quality services for their missionary work. Thanks Lord I walked away from this fraud 20 years ago and they have not get any more money out of me.

Julia I have four cats now! A blue-point Birman and three moggies. A friend at work, who also loves cats, gave me a mug that says Crazy Cat Lady on one side and on the other it says, Every Life Should Have Nine Cats

daringhart13 and LongHairGal thanks for different perspectives on fading. So you lost friends anyway LongHairGal, I'm sorry.

they still see me as that popular elder guy - daringhart13

Strange isn't it? Well done you for making it as least traumatic as possible.

Suppose that's what I've been trying to say really, could I have made it less traumatic? Never told anyone that story about the 'let's find a cottage somewhere and not go to the meetings' conversation with my husband. Only you guys on here Pointless looking back, possibly, but I am still trying to work out when to stick my neck out and when to keep my head down in life generally and at work particularly. Being raised in a cult gives you mixed messages about how to 'do' life doesn't it? Trying to learn from everything that has happened so I can make life better for myself and my daughter.

    1. Kaik yes they do. Sadly they can point to scriptures in the Bible and Jesus' words in particular to justify their actions.

    kaik:

Wow, that is quite serious. Please do not be offended, but, it seems from what you have said that things are quite bad in the emerging eastern European countries. And, I am not meaning to paint everybody there with a broad brush as I am sure there are fine people there. I think when people are denied the "luxuries" they see the western world having for so long, they get anxious and ruthless and want it for themselves at any cost. They have seen that "religion" is a quick means to easy money from gullible followers who will tolerate anything.

In the U.S., if elders and other JWs are found to be crooked, it is usually exposed at some point and doesn't go on forever. As far as these nervy animals asking people to do their laundry, etc., they might get away with this in certain areas, but definitely not as a whole. Unfortunately, you cannot help that there are stupid and gullible women who will do anything for some of these men.

My experience in the JW religion has certainly been an eye-opener and I can honestly say that I am done with religion. I have had enough to last several lifetimes. It is my wish that these religions are done away with and that the scheming, con-artists get their asses kicked into the streets where they belong. I have no pity for them. Let these bastards pound the pavement looking for real work like everybody else.

Meanwhile, I wish you all the best!

great story - sad your husband died as it seemed you embarked on your journey of freedom together as a shared enterprise - it must have been very hard for you after he died...
