It is the mystery of all mysteries.

I'm-a go with a gun to the head... either figuratively or literally.
My typo, I forgot to put no. So the sentence in my previous post is that cell towers are unable to pick the signal in that altitude.
Cui bono?
Time will tell.
So far, the US, UK and EU have benefitted as this mystery has taken some limelight away from their humiliation in Ukraine/Crimea.
it was a night flight so I guess many of the passengers would have been sleeping. Latest thought on BBC tonight, which they alleged came from a credible source, was that the plane flew south til it ran out of fuel and ditched in the ocean west of Australia. We'll see...(or maybe we won't)
Thanks Under the Radar for that info. I agree that the talking heads are not clearing anything up, just fomenting lots of theories. My guess is that something went terribly wrong with the plane and it's at the bottom of the ocean.
I actually heard an FBI person today say on television that if they find something out that could reveal the capabilities they have for surveillance, computer stuff, whatever, they might not reveal their info because they don't want other nations aware of their abilities.
Possible debris spotted west of Oz....
Noted.

It seems that everyone on the plane must have been incapacitated.

If we can rely on any released information, then the increase in altitude to above 40,000 feet, may have been to do exactly that
