...that District Overseers are now being used as Circuit Overseers!!

That was a comment at the WT study program. Another great comment was this: " You can go to Bethel and have ZERO skills. When the branch sends you to the local Congregations after Bethel [ fires you ], you are very skilled and have no problem finding employment. After all, the JW Bethelites are the best employees."

Also, JEHOVAH provided a hair-cutting job to a man who refused a free higher education... So, there's that...

At this point I do feel pity for these folks. They really believe this stuff....

Funny you say this. We all see this as an obvious downsizing move, just like any corporation would do. But after the announcement my MIL commented how they must be doing this "for all the new circuits being formed."

And exactly where are these new circuits?

reading the WT and Awake for a few years is as good as a university degree

One 90 year old elder commented at our hall that if you get a university education you end up with £20k worth of debt.

There was no mention that in the UK you only begin to repay that debt once your earnings reach a certain level and that the repayment rate is very low.
Many will never have to repay their student debts at all if they don't earn enough.
Basically, it's the cheapest loan you will ever get in your life.

But putting things in perspective never really goes down well in a kingdom hall.

Who was it who said "If you think education is expensive, you should try ignorance".

This D.O. firing news hasn't been announced in my cong. yet.

At least I have honest JW's in my cong. We all agreed it was an obvious downsizing move. Others have heard rumors that not enough young people are reaching out. Some circuits don't even have an official CO and are being serviced by substitutes. The old DOs can now step in and fulfill these roles instead of them searching for new people.

" Many will never have to pay thier student debts at all if they don't earn enough " ___Splash

    Hello there Splash

Call me country dumb, But I have to ask

What's the use of higher education if you still can't

earn enough to pay your debts ?

    .

    .

Here in the U.S. you can get grade based scholarships

as long as your grades stay at or above a certain GPA

Higher educaton can be free. That's how my daughter

made it through. She even got to study abroad

at no cost to me because she applied herself

    .

    .

And for those who have debt

there are certain jobs you can take

that will cancel your debt. Like School teachers and Law enforcement ( Public service Jobs )

So true about the confirmation bias. In the minds of a JW, the org is expanding and growing at all times so ANY news will be twisted to be positive. Branches closing? Not downsizing, just consolidting and simplifying. See how that works? They will say how streamlined the Org is as we are so close to the GT. We can so clearly see Jehovahs hand can we not?
