  I agree, if money was the goal they would be better off doing like the Mormons, demanding a tithe and encouraging the members to get an education. I think money is important, but I think the power is even more important to them. Imagine being able to tell millions of people to do something, and not only do they do it, they think it was their own idea. That's power.

  From the accounts I have read at Bethel, it is a very strange environment. Seniority is all powerful, getting you every thing from a better room to a more strategic seat at the table, which ensures you get first crack at the chicken. New people are ridiculed and harassed, power is used and abused. If you make it to the top of that dung heap, you are very powerful, the GB are Rock stars, big fish in that tiny pond.

  Like Rock Stars, or Cardinals, they do not worry, or even think much, about the money, that sort of thing is left to the experts they employ, hence the stressing of the WT Corp being a seperate entitiy, temporal, where the GB are spiritual.

  And yes, the GB does have power, but as a group they have more sense than to ignore the good advice they are paying for, so their power is limited by the group I mentioned above. It really is little different from the way the Vatican functions. The Pope and Cardinals do not have absolute power.

  The organisation cannot run without money. Money is what makes the world go round, and WT corp have got more money than their members. Not having to worry about money only comes to those that have lots.

  The amount of soliciting for donations is evidence that WT want the members to donate more. We got annoucements about donations regarding the new bibles, the Warwick complex, and the new site in London. The way that soliciting is done in the congs plays on the conscience and is mind control.

  The GB live like rock stars compared to some of the R&F.

  Yes it is all about the money, and the power that comes with it.

  Lisa beat me to it. The Mormon church is a much better example of a religion driven by money. If the GB wanted money every other Watchtower would be about the scriptural history of tithing, and members would be told to study hard and get good jobs so they could tithe more. The elders would keep donation records instead of field service reports, and on April 15th every year you'd give them a copy of your tax return so they could verify your accounts.

  I know a lot of the numbers look big, but they aren't really. I worked for 25 years in investment real estate, a billion dollars is not that big an empire, I've worked for small family outfits here in Seattle that had portfolios worth 300-500 million.

  If the Society needs more money they should hire me as their financial adviser. I could easily quadruple the amount they receive in contributions without requiring either a tithe or passing a donation plate. No problem.

  It may not be all about the money, but it's all about the visible Organization. The money is a neccessary tool to keep the Golden Calf alive.

  every part of the world. Imagine someone else purchasing it for you.

  Imagine that thousands of people came to build, repair & maintain

  your investments......so that the value went up ...at no cost to you!

  Imagine if you could sell your profitable properties when you decided

  to ....without an explanation or revealling any details .....especially where

  all the money went!

  Imagine not paying taxes on these billions of dollars ...

  'cause you run a business religion and ....and a very big perk,

  ..............your followers think you speak for god!

  The simple truth is that the Org has a goose that lays the Golden Eggs, and they ain't gonna do ANYTHING drastic which could induce the goose to limit its production.
