But misrepresenting the situation to try to make the point more forceful than it really is does more harm than good.- sir82

Have you adressed your thoughts with Cedars on his site? He is usually very good at responding to legitimate alternative opinions of others. I would be interested in seeing his response.

Personally I am undecided as to whether or not his article is sensationalising the facts. Sir82 let us know if you comment or have commented already, so we can look up the response, atm there are 196 comments and Cedars has responded to many, including mine. He actually thought I was sensationalising the facts.

Cedars can be a bit like marmite you either love him or you hate him, I think his articles in the main are very balanced and give us the facts.

    @ TheOldHippie:

Cedar writes on his blog that

"After listening to the above statement, publishers would be forgiven for assuming that more than 13,000 new Kingdom Halls are needed each year to keep pace with publisher growth.

TOH..... Nowhere does it say that 13,000 are needed annually

    ---

Actually, Cedars didn't say '13,000 KHs are needed annually'. Read what he did say: "publishers would be forgiven for assuming that more than 13,000 new Kingdom Halls are needed each year".

    .

    I believe he is correct.

Watch and see after the letter is read how many JWs interpret the WT's statement to mean that 13,000 KHs are needed annually, so they must donate like mad fools to meet the demand.

PROCLAIMERS BOOK chap. 21 p. 341 - "There are no emotional appeals for funds in their congregations or at their conventions......... Christians...........do not tithe, nor are they under obligation to give any other contribution of a specified amount or at a particular time." (Matt. 5:17; Rom. 7:6; Col. 2:13,14)

PROCLAIMERS BOOK ... is based on old burned out light. C.T. Russell was recently demoted to nothing more than a seeker of truth, therefore, everything he said is able to be discarded, which would include his statement about not asking for donations.

Letter should be read but not posted on the board. Not enough time to do the math and find out that it is "fuzzy math" as George Bush would say.

I pledge at my church. The building, clergy, stained glass windows, organ, etc. require maintenance. I never gave money until law school. Business law class taught me these things are not free. I notice that the cash in the collection plate is normally $1.00 bills. When my family was active, none of the Witnesses were donating. Stewardship is not taught. Of course, when I donate, it is for local maintenance and programs. I can walk in anytime to see how the money is being used. Financial statements are posted in the church.

I don't like money being sent away. Others agree with me b/c they monitor certain programs. Let the GB donate. I thought light bulbs at one church could be picked up at a hardware store or Wal-Mart. They were energy efficient and were $60. I feel Witnesses should take money out the box to compensate for being forced to worship in such ugly places.

Exactly. They always use the tricky inflated numbers to sell with. The r&f will walk away thinking 13000 khs are needed right now.

I'm sure the holy spirit guided this tricky language and manipulation.

It's turning into a full fledge ponzi scheme, the only difference is they never actually pay dividends to any contributors. All that comes in the future!

I read the parts of the letter. It seem the Governing Body are in a major move to fleece the flock for everything they can get.

They are cashing in on their new understand of who make up the Faithful and Discreet Slave and the need for blind and unquestioning Obedience to this Slave/Ruler.

They must be anticipating some big multi million dollar childmolestation lawsuits pay outs in the very near future and are making ready plans to buy and sell more real estate with the Rank and File picking up the tab unquestionally.

Yes I agree I remember reading it like that, it's WT that is sensentionalising the amount of builds they are responsible for. What about all the examples of building projects that JWs have donated towards and then the build is cancelled like the one in Guadalajara. Kate xx
