This conregation donation pledge arrangement could cause many problems between the JW's. Anyone suspected of not donating enough money or anyone leaving the cong for another cong will be ragged on bigtime. I remember making arrangements to move to a different city, when an elderette actually was pissed that they would not be getting my donations anymore. She actually demanded I keep donating to them to help pay for the new KH. I moved anyway and did not donate to my old KH.
New Donation arrangement (tithe) Asked my Elder about it he hung up on me

The WTS lives in lalaland...........I remember an elder saying that a jw would rather break all the 10 commandments than break a 20 (regarding tipping).
A few give big, but most not at all.

This may initially make more money availible but as the news of multi million dollar childmolestation lawsuit pay outs and WT real estate sell offs to cover the cost becomes common knowledge, the worse it will get as far as collecting money from the rank and file as they start to become less interested in paying for the WT corporation's mismanagement legal cost. Eventually it all becomes too obvious to ignore and the money starts to dry up that used to come from the gulible.

I think the reason the Elder hung up on you was:
The cognitive dissonance that your question created in his psyche was very painful and any answer that he could think of was painful to contemplate, and so the pain caused him to try and compartmentalize the need for secrecy by a self proclaimed Faithful and Discreet Slave of God as it appeared for a brief instant to be that they were being dishonest and out of character of a so called F&DS would be especially to those they are suppose to care for with food at the proper time or meat in due season.

Of course, one can debate about what is a higher "need" - a permanent structure for a Kingdom Hall, or economic help for the congregation members who would attend there.
For me this is the core issue especially in third world countries, where the general
population may be living in make shift housing or mud structures with thatched
roofs or in tents - Structures, to meet in, are irrelevant. Feeding , clothing and housing
people in need, are what is necessary. Bringing poor and underfed people to a well
built Kingdom Hall and then asking them to pay for it is absurd. Well the whole culture
and beliefs of the WT are absurd.

Wow.......that list of 41 Watchtower branch closures is impressive. Goes against everything they use to preach when they pointed to branch growth as a sign they had the truth. If this was a business corporation you would think it is trying to stop bankruptcy.
Wait a minute.....the Watchtower is a business corporation.

There should be a call for Non Profit Financial Transparency:
What Practices Demonstrate Transparency and Accountability?
Accountability and transparency can be demonstrated by a variety practices, including:
- Being honest in solicitation materials and truthful and clear in communications with donors about how their gifts will be or have been used; (Read about accountability practices in fundraising.)
- Having a conflict of interest policy that all board and staff are aware of and review regularly;
- Adopting an executive compensation policy to ensure that the full board is aware of and approves the compensation of the executive director/CEO;
- Publishing financial information on a nonprofit’s website, such as a copy of the organization’s application for tax-exemption, IRS Form 990, audited financial statements and annual reports, as applicable;
- Ensuring the regular review by the board of current financial statements and of the IRS Form 990 prior to filing;
- Adoptingsound financial management policies, including internal controls, to ensure accountability; Have you considered clarifying the board and staff's role in financial accountability? Sample board/staff agreement (Blue Avocado)
- Being transparent about who is accountable for the nonprofit’s expenditures; adopting expense policies, such as a travel expense reimbursement policy (requiring prior approval and limiting expenditures to what is reasonable.) Why is it important to adopt a written policy about expense reimbursement? (Guidance from the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits.) Download a sample travel reimbursement policy .
- Responding appropriately to requests for copies of financial reports, as required by the IRS public disclosure requirements.
- Use an on-line tutorial from the IRS to teach your board or staff about the IRS public disclosure regulations
- Sample public disclosure policy (Public Counsel Law Center)
- Finding the Right Transparency posted in the Nonprofit Law Blog goes beyond legal requirements and explores ideas for using social media and the internet as transparency tools, and also shares several other helpful resources on transparency.
Other important aspects of creating a culture of transparency and accountability include adopting an internal complaint procedure for staff and volunteers, and a whistleblower policy in accordance with state laws for whistleblower protection.

I did nit see the recent closing and selling of of Italy on that list? Remember, it was announced after the "morris tight pants talk"
