I think the troll alert alarm has sounded, she's mentioned the YMCA thing about a dozen times and has completely ignored Outlaws excellent 2 posts and the half dozen or so links to jwfacts.com!

What I cant understand is why someone would want to hide who they are. Why not just come out and say I'm an active witness and I want to talk about such and such a topic. I'm pretty sure the answer I'm going to give isn't going to change regardless of which side of the line she/he stands on with REGUARD to TTATT. Why play games, my mind is made up and nothing is going to change it. In fact I think it would be great if more witnesses came on here and were open about who they were. To be honest I couldn't really care who they were provided they treated me with kindness and respect.

    I'm not going to bash, berate or judge you but I will say this;

    DON'T GO THERE.

here are so many broken family relationships among members of this forum it is astonishing.

    Luke 12:49-53

"I came to start a fire on the earth, and what more is there for me to wish if it has already been lighted? 50 Indeed, I have a baptism with which to be baptized, and how I am being distressed until it is finished! 51 Do YOU imagine I came to give peace on the earth? No, indeed, I tell YOU, but rather division. 52 For from now on there will be five in one house divided, three against two and two against three. 53 They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against [her] mother, mother-in-law against [her] daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against [her] mother-in-law."

What Jesus Christ said would happen, is really happening!

I don't think she was a troll, and I don't think she was lying about the YMCA. I was a JW for 20 yrs and never heard a thing about the YMCA or read an article about them. The fact that it is a Christian Association I would just presume that JWs don't get involved, just as with the Salvation Army.

But I am sure JWs go to slimmers world or wieght watchers that are in churches.

If you are still reading jnj, I would like you to know my daughter who left the WT, is going to marry a soldier RMP, when he is finished his training. She does not want to go back, but she will be viewed as "spritually weak" for marrying a soldier. And she wouldn't have much association with other couples as they wouldn't befriend a soldier and she know it.

WT hierarchy is a lot like the military, that is probably why you like it, there is a lot of order and routine. I wish you all the best.

In joining the YMCA as a member a person accepts or endorses the general objectives and principles of the organization. ... Membership means that one has become an integral part of this organization founded with definite religious objectives, including the promotion of interfaith. Hence, for one of Jehovah's Witnesses to become a member of such a so-called Christian association would amount to apostasy." - Watchtower 1979 Jan 1 pp.30-31 Questions from Readers

Thanks for that Viv, Wow 35 yrs ago!

I think this really shows she is telling the truth, it's such an old mag and I would say that the rule about this is inconsistent around the globe, just like the Malawi / Mexico incident. Most JWs who want to go along to the YMCA, don't do a CD-ROM search to see if it's okay.

It's like painting the outside of a church. Some JWs would do it and keep it quiet because they need to earn a living, even elders.

I want to give her the benefit of the doubt.

    Thanks Viv. Kate xx

Here locally a new baptized disabled brother was warned that he would be disfellowshipped if he continued his membership at the YMCA. Due to being disabled, he (and his family) was able to use the facilities for almost free and he could not afford to join a commercial gym.

TOO BAD. Cease going to the "Y" or be expelled. It's part of Satan's Organization.

DOC, so they waited until he got baptised, before they told him, typical. Kate xx

You people are nuts. She mentions a friend goes to the YMCA and you assume she is a troll? You think no JWs in the world go to the YMCA? I never heard of any type of restriction about going to the YMCA. The first time I heard of such a thing was after I left. The fact that this hasn't been mentioned in almost 40 years indicates that this rule is rarely enforced. I doubt most JWs even knew about that rule.
