    JNJBurkett,

I am sorry about your stepdad. You will find that the "options" and "choices" will end once you are a JW. You will find that they will be pushing WT ideas about blood, holidays, EVERYTHING on innocent people who happen to be riding in the same car, bus, train with them. Please don't allow them to start harping at someone going through dialysis. They are facing enough and do not need hear about the dangers of any medical treatments they may be getting or about how they are perhaps violating the WT law (Jehovah's) by accepting certain treatments.

You cannot BE a member of the YMCA, but can USE their facilities as a JW. We always had our baptisms at the Y when I was living in the midwest. Apparently, it is okay to give the Y money to use the gym or pool, but to have a membership is supporting their cause, which has Christian overtones. It is definitely a crazy reasoning, but there it is.

Troll ... maybe, some things don't seem quite right ... but as far as the YMCA thing, I think they may treat this as a don't ask don't tell, the Organization hasn't touched it in a while. I know that in my area, the YMCA took over management of a local facility a few years ago, some were willing to go until an old timer corporate elder put his stamp of disapproval on it. The JW's used to go there every Saturday and stopped once the YMCA took it over.

    jnb,

So you have been studying a month and you have already hit a snag- (military service.)

Well, give it time there will be plenty more "snags" where that one came from.

They are just humoring you at the moment because they are grooming you for recruitment into their religion.

Trust me it wont last, to qualify for baptism you will have to part company with all things military and that includes family.

Try asking them some point blank questions about military, YMCA, or what you have to change to get baptised.

Pretty soon the gloves will come off and you will see what's really going on.

Don't trust their "love and friendship" it's conditional on you becoming one of them.

I want to welcome you here and hope and pray that you have found some help.

Also, I want to know if you pray for your husband, brother, and people in authority and government?

How about the kingdom hall, are they praying for government? People in office? Or do they think it is the Governing Body? See how they will twist following scriptures to mean WT Governing Body! So that is a red flag!

JW do not ever pray for presidents or officers! In fact do they pray for anyone outside the religion!

You have a problem because it goes against the bible. No matter what you are welcome here.

    Romans 13:1 ESV /

Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.

    1 Timothy 2:1-15 ESV

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ.

By this all will know you are my disciples If you have love amongst yourselves. John 13:35

    w79 1/1 p31:

"In joing the YMCA as a member a person accepts or endorses the general objectives and principles of the organization. He is not simply paying for something he receives, such as when buying things being sold to the public at a store. (Compare 1 Corinthians 8:10; 10:25). Nor is his membership merely an entry pass, as when a person buys a theatre ticket. Membership means that one has become an integral part of this organization founded with definite religious objectives, including the promotion of interfaith. Hence, for one of Jehovah's Witnesses to become a member of such a so-called "Christian" association would amount to apostasy."

    I too smell a troll.

Jngburkett - I was raised as a JW and in it for almost 30 years. The way the religion works, there is love bombing and some deception on policies. They don't want to scare or discourage any who they get who are interested so new ones aren't forbidden or forced to do much, it's a slow process.

One example that you can yourself find in order to see deception is this.... on their official website under FAQ's on shunning you find this page....

    http://www.jw.org/en/jehovahs-witnesses/faq/shunning/

Now read that, and ask yourself, if your entire family, aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc all become JW's and later on you decide it's not right and God leads you on a different path, will your entire family cut you off and shun you??

By reading their above FAQ it may appear that only JW's will shun you and not matter what family is family.

I'll let some others post the articles if you want to see them but in practice, in the watchtowers, they actually forbid talking to those who leave who don't live in the same house. Even emailing is forbidden.

In the question it says "FORMER MEMBERS", but then they play with words and they are describing, 'inactive' ones. To be a former member one would be disfellowshipped or disassociate themself and THEY ARE SHUNNED. Also you notice how the play with words makes it appear family is family, but in that example it's a family living in the same roof. They leave out that if not in the same roof, then mother/daughter father/son would shun whichever leaves or is disfellowshipped.

Also another thing you'll notice, in anywhere have they taught you in the scriptures and in your study about human's you must follow? Have you heard about "the faithful and discreet slave" yet? They make it appear they only serve Jesus/God, and you can get holy spirit, reading the bible, etc.

The teaching that is snuck in slowly is that you can't possibly understand the bible nor get holy spirit and your salvation depends on BLIND FAITH and BLIND OBEDIENCE of about 8 men in the headquaters they call the governing body.

You may want to look into these things.

I walked out of the Hall about a year ago after knowing TTATT for about a year before that. Trust me I'm having a hell of a time trying to readjust. The military and the witnesses don't mix, and if you choose to follow through with the religion will put the relationship between you and your husband under greater strain. Trust me.
