    E. Principles. I am a very principle-oriented, rule-loving individual. I enjoyed the straitjacket of the religion in most ways. In a past era I would have been a self-flagellating monk.

I think stucture and having others make your decisions is also a big draw for some people that feel out of control or chaotic.

JW definatly gives you unlimited structure.

Kind of like a newborn needs to be wrapped tight to calm down. I believe some people still have that in them, only emotionally, to be emotionally/mentally wrapped up tight to feel calm.

.....along wth promises of absolutes. They promise a lot don't they?

For me it was always A. I never had a fear of death for some reason, so avoiding it was not a very big motivator for me. I have read that most people are the opposite, they are risk adverse, are more afraid of losing something than they are interested in gaining something. It's why I was a lousy JW. I didn't fear being killed at Armageddon, after 1975 came and went I never really thought about it much.

blondie - don't forget the stick of gruesome annihilation at Armageddon that is coming oh sooooo sooooon. The carrot and stick work in tandem.

A ) I feared death of the human race, (not personal demise) in the next war, and the [supposed] written PROMISE of God to intervene.

neither stick or carrot reaction for me.

I am glad to be still around to see it all unravel.

3rd generation born in... I believed it all but hearing the constant reference to how the 'new system' would solve EVERYTHING did it for me. Cant believe I was that stupid and gullible....

Batman99 - you do realized that giving us a binary either or proposittion is very WBTS logic, don't you? Reducing complexity to a simple if not this, then that proposition.

I remember my Dad (RIP), came home all fired up from an Elders meeting once and said that if Jehovah(tm) didn't offer eternal life he'd still serve Jehovah(tm) out of pure love.

I thought 'I bloody wouldn't.' ....and I was a born in dyed in the wool drone in those days.

Some time later a CO said he'd heard that line of reasoning(yeah, I know), but didn't agree with it.

C)......The WBT$ have mentally conditioned JWs to obey without question and believe everything they have forced upon them for fear of reprisals from the 'flock(tm)'. Giving money to the WBT$ is a good way to remove the guilt, phobia and fear.

I had zero bible knowledge and allowed myself to believe a jw family member who seriously "threatened" me that my little babies would die at armageddon if I did not get baptized. So I came in to "save" my children.
