Bodyweight exercise is good up to a point but if you want to add muscle mass you will need to lift heavy.

Problem is it's difficult to lose fat and gain muscle at the same time. One needs a calorie deficit and the other needs a calorie surplus.

If you lose weight too quickly without resistance exercise you will likely lose some muscle as well as fat. That is why it's best to aim for a modest rate of fat burn of half a pound to a pound per week. People with a lot to lose can usually lose at a higher rate at first.

DJS makes a very important point when he says you can't "spot lose." Your genes will decide which fat cells it burns first. Everybody carries their fat differently.

There are so many myths about nutrition and exercise.

I am glad you agree, I know some slim, tanned women, that are always hungry and angry. They are JW bitches who are my age with more wrinkles than me, and consumed daily about their appearance. They seem like they've permantly got PMT. They are also very insecure when their husbands talk to sisters. One husband actually cheated on his wonderful looking wife, no surprise she was always in a bad mood trying to stay great looking.

We need balance in our lives, yes okay................I am on here too much I need to get some balance myself

    DD,

Working out is another thing I know a lot about. A few years ago I dated a woman who competed at the highest level in body building (Ms. Olympia). She competed at the same time as Cory Everson. Google it. When she wasn't competing she was simply tall, blonde, gorgeous, lean and ripped. When she was competing she was freaking amazing - cobra back, etc. She also took chemical 'enhancements' but that's another story. She taught me more than I have learned anywhere else about working out/eating/resistance traiining. Her guidance is based on science. It isn't for the faint of heart though, so unless you are seriously interested I will avoid boring you.

No magic bullet without side effects. For permanent weight loss and a buff body, you are going to have to modify your behavior; both food intake and activity level. If you do muscle-building activities, that extra muscle is going to help burn up your extra calories, too.

Or you could bypass all that and take an ephedrine based product for short-term results. It will all come back with a venegance though if you go off it.

    Kate,

Women are insecure.?? Really? Just kidding. They would most likely act the same way whether they were buff or fat. I agree that it is a balance, but lifting weights is science; nothing makes you look younger and boosts your immune system better. And it improves your sex life. And your dating life. And your clothes fit better. A few weeks ago there was a study released that suggests long distance running can be bad for your long term health. Duh.

ARRRRGGGHHHH... I know..... I used to follow the Navy Seal Fitness Program. The Government spent millions of tax payer dollars to fine tune a PT program and guess what? They don't recommend worrying about supplements. I know there aren't any short-cuts.... Then again, I am not 24 anymore... Maybe I will juice for a couple of days. I have been eating too many hamburgers and I just feel gross.

    Kate,

My kid asked me to come up with a fitness routine for us to do together. So that should be fun. I have the same stamina as a teenager who has never worked out, so we should be evenly matched. LOL!!!

Get yourself some Milk-thistle and take it all the time, this will help to clean out your liver. When your filtration system is clean then the body can more easily rid itself of toxins fat etc. Trust me its a good first start.

There is no such thing as "detoxing". If your liver is failing to properly remove toxins from your blood you will be dangerously ill in hospital very soon.

Don't confuse helathy eating with weight loss. Although it makes sense to eat healthy food, as far as weight loss is concerned your body doesn't care if you get your calories from chocolate bars or organic vegetables.
