They are more focussed on the EVENT or ACTIVITY, rather than the substance of the information presented

In a religion where impression management rules, content takes a drafty back seat to appearances. You go to be seen and to see others. If you see - or better yet, hear - Watchtower Royalty, you are spiritually blessed, regardless of what is said. Indeed, Royalty need say nothing of substance because it matches what is worn.Blind-as-bat Witnesses are not out to evaluate and ingest good quality spiritual food so much as to be seen in the radiated glow of Watchtower Royalty. You are blessed, brothers and sisters because you occupy the mere shadow of Royalty.

    Yes Steve2!

I have had ones already saying things like "I can't wait to shake the hand of the governing body members who will be coming to Melbourne"!

Re: OP, isn't that true of most activities religious or secular?

The anticipation and preparation generally out weighs the event unless it has entertainment value.

Think about holidays: the prepping and the anticipation usually over shadows the content.

Seriously, how many of us really went for the information?

We used the conventions as an excuse for a vacation. I anticipated the new releases and the dramas. Also any "new light". I figured most of the main talks would be made into articles

    anyway.

Hey, JWs don't get much excitement or variety in their lives, why begrudge the little they get.

Indoctrinated JWs don't have much substance to them anyway, many are robots. While it's true they may look forward to meeting others and the event, I still think many are listening and obeying the content of talks. That's why RCs, are so dangerous, because that's where many decide they are going to reach out to be pioneers or elders, and they give up their career and education goals.

They do listen, even if they are asleep. Aparantly it's a hypnotic state and the information is still going in, Steve Hassan explained it in his book.

Good observation, stuckinarut2. Even while I was engaging in distributing invitations to conventions or to the Memorial, I frequently observed to my fellow JWs that the act of inviting was more for US than for the ones to whom we gave the fliers. It built up anticipation for the JWs, and it probably ensured a larger turnout. But I always left the event feeling let down, and I sensed that others did, too.
