Totalitarian regimes regularly purge older and long time serving members in order to cement th their power and remove any chance of opposition. Look up Stalin's purges. Also the young Kim Jong Un who got power a few years ago in north Korea has purged some top brass. This gb is becoming more like a totalitarian regime so this move does not surprise me. Read Animal Farm. The pigs are turning human.

What if joke-hova were to be expected to prove that it is worth serving that thing, by ensuring ongoing good health to those who are in those positions, and are reaching 80 years of age? Perhaps if those at the bottom saw people doing all they can, in good health and financially well off at ages approaching 200, they might believe that joke-hova was doing miracles. And that "Satan claimed people would serve joke-hova only for the blessings", even if it was true (it is not), does nothing. People cannot serve anyone if they are disabled from doing so, whether for health or money reasons.
It would also allow experience to be preserved. You get someone that has a knack for handling difficult situations, reaching age 80 or 90, and they are in perfect health. That preserves that experience. Allowing them to deteriorate and then removing them for age would delete that experience, allowing people with little or no aptitude to take their places. Eventually you have 20- and 30-somethings that know nothing and cannot think, and whole congregations deteriorate. At that point, you might as well have several people at random and one Ouija board.

Precisely the kind of men WT is looking for: rule following, rule enforcing, ignorant, non-thinking minions.
To WT, anyone who uses their brain and critical thinking skills is a danger and must be either remodeled or purged.

Talking to 2 diiferent "Brothers" about this (Elders in their late 40's), they like this new arrangement and can't wait to dicuss it at the next Elder's meeting.
One Brother said his COBE is 75 and loosing it. He has been "yelling at young kids in the Hall to stop playing at every meeting", upsetting several parents. Also he accused an Mature Brother having an affair with a young Sister(no facts, just running his mouth). He also lost 3 different checks, 1 was to be given to the CO( this Brother had audited the accounts, and noticed 3 voided checks, replacements issued in a 3 month period).
The other Brother said the COBE in his congregation is 78, just delegates all his responsibilities out to other Elders, but likes being the COBE!

Of course they like it. A WT-mandated forced 'retirement' policy for the current head honcho. It makes climbing the corporate ladder to the next rung so much easier for an ambitious, forty-something elder who's got his eye on being the next COBE.
Granted, some of these 70+ COBEs may no longer qualify to serve in much of any capacity, but an across-the-board rule ousting a person based solely on age, without consideration of his abilities and performance now, is rather silly.
I like it though....it'll just create yet another group that WT has disenfranchised and embittered by being marginalized to the "what have you done for us today?" category, along with all the other faithful JWs WT has managed to piss off lately (Bethelites; District Overseers, etc.).
