Accusing Ex-JWs of Behaving Like JWs Should be Taboo

I don't understand how this arguing came about based on the merits of the OP

    I think I do.

A number of posters saw it as an oppportunity to ignore the simple and reasonable point in the OP and go on the attack.

Also, a depressing number of posters like to use the "JW" jibe and didn't like having it pointed out that it is a pernicious insult.

A few others tried to dreail the thread to whinge about unrelated pet peeves.

The OP still stands on merit.

Cofty, have you posted yet on the one trait you think is typically JW? I can't see it anywhere and I want to know what it is!

I offered to start a new thread on that after the weekend. Stillin decided to start their own thread on a related topic.

I don't want to detract from that, so once it has run its course I will post my idea.

Would it be less offensive to point out leftover or still ingrained "high mind cotrol mindset" attitudes, instead of pinpointing the JW with the actual name? Basically like a "politically correct" term to say some of the same ideas?

No I don't think a euphemism would make any difference.

Would it not be better to simply discuss a specific statement that you disagree with and explain why you think it is wrong?

There is nothing to be gained by trying to make judgements about the personalities of people we only know through a forum.

    How about an egg banjo?

    That fixes everything......

mmmmm - with tomato sauce please!

    It becomes a banjo when....

...the yolk and sauce dribble down your front. You move the hand containing the sandwich away and up to a point level with your ear as you look down your front and usually to an accompanying "Aw bollocks" you wipe/smear the said yolk & sauce into your shirt with your free hand giving a passing imitation of playing 'air banjo' !

I'm not sure I get it here. I'm with you Cofty usually — so I'm trying to understand the dispute.

As an atheist (yeah... not an agnostic), I don't need to respect any woo-woo explaination that yacketty-yacks beyond scientific knowledge.
My motto is what Bertrand Russell said:
"Either the thing is true, or it isn't. If it is true, you should believe it, and if it isn't, you shouldn't. And if you can't find out whether it's true or whether it isn't, you should suspend judgment."

    PERIOD.

The rest is metaphysical presupposition. Nobody should base their life on "what ifs".

As for accusing someone they still think like a JW — it's like telling a Jew they are thinking like a nazi.
There is MUCH too much suffering to insult exJWs to think like they did when they were imbeciles.

This thread isnt just about the subject matter. It's also about the attitude of some people that comes across. Attitude.
