Welcome! You're very lucky to be learning TTATT at a relatively young age. You've got your whole life ahead of you! Go, learn, and come up with your own meaning in life. You don't need 7 geezers in NY to tell you what the purpose of your life should be.

I wish you nothing but the best in your journey!

At the service meeting my dad was at the literature counting picking up some mags, then my BIL came and talked to him.

He told my dad how he heard from me that my dad encouraged me to get an education, then he proceeded to tell him he wasn't qualified to be an elder,

and that he should heed the wisdom from the "Faithful and Discreet Slave" aka the businessman. He proceeded to tell my dad that Jah would bless me

and I need not worry about supporting myself financial. He proceeded to boast about how he and my sister were pioneering, had no money to buy food

and a return visit fed them lmao. My dad began to raise his voice, people in the hall were turning heads, he then said loudly of the Governing Body told you to Jump off a 10 - story building, would you jump? There was a brief silence for a good 5 seconds. You could hear a pin drop in the hall, and by the way this was the first saturday of the month so most of the people in my congregation were present. He got scared and asked my dad to quiet down, my dad then grabbed my sister and asked her to join in the discussion and then my BIL stayed quiet.(In my mind I said my dad is the best blessing god could ever give me) My dad told him that while you are struggling the GB are living like Kings.

Despite these men having positions of authority in the org praticing corruption and the injustices bestowed on my dad in my previous cong

(That situation needs its own post ill explain later)

my dad still believes this is gods organization. I will try to show him info and tell him to really LOOK at whats going on.

    Sincerely by the Yellow Flash,

    Welcome!

With what your dad said to your brother in law, he may be harboring some "ill will" toward the governing body because of their lifestyles. You never can tell what the future holds. He obviously is at odds with them over the education thing...there may be other things he has issues with. Tread softly and slowly, however. Your education is the most important thing right now. There will be time for discussions later....

So happy you've made the right choice to pursue a happy life, and kudos to your dad. Be sure to tell him he's your hero! Looking forward to many more of your posts.

The pipsqueak dared to suggest that his father-in-law did not deserve to be an elder? He better watch his step. Who is he going to turn to the next time he is out of food or rent money? Perhaps he can write the Governing Body for new shoes.

Welcome, your father sounds awesome. Go to college and get an education, you will never regret it. With a degree you have something that rest of the young JWs don't have, choice. If you skip college and change your mind it will be so much harder, you might have family responsibilities by then or debt you have to work off. Those who would tell you not to go are just jealous and afraid they will feel inferor to you.

There is nothing wrong with making an honest living in a blue collar job, but not everyone wants that. If you have the intelligence and drive to get an education it would be a huge mistake to not go. They say the end is so close and you won't need college in the new system, but they said I would never have time for a career in this system of things, and I am almost 60! I sure wish I had gone.

Go to college and don't look back.

It sounds a bit like both your BIL and father are treading on thin ice. Your father seems to have had an issue with the recent lesson about following any directions that the GB might give. I fear he might be going too far in disputing that openly. His status as an elder may already be threatened by your going to college.

Anyway, I'm not sure if it's the best timing to start trying to tell your dad TTATT. If you are new to it yourself then there is a ton of information you can still learn about how to counter various JW thought-stoppers and about Bible interpretation. Moreover, your dad is going to worry about you if you are going away to college (are we talking about living in a dorm here?).

For most JWs, the idea of the truth not being the truth leads to hyperbolic responses like, "Well should we just toss all our morals out the window, then?" It's a reaction that all fundamentalist Christians have when their morality is questioned in any way because they are used to having a solid foundation for their morals (i.e., someone telling them what to do) and don't have any faith in their own, or anyone else's, inherent sense of right and wrong. So if you indicate to your dad that you don't believe in it anymore, he's going to worry about you going off the deep end morally and living a debauched lifestyle while you are in college.

That being said, I don't really know the whole situation, and I don't know your dad, so maybe he can handle it. And you can always reassure him that you won't be doing anything crazy while you're out of the home.

Critical thinking skills disinfect religious tomfoolery and eviscerate nutty beliefs. Way to go, bro! And a warm welcome. Unlike in your local congregation, your brain will get a work out here.
