Hey! Who better to recognize that the bible is a book of fiction than a sci-fi writer?
How about your FIRST one?
Stucky, you have to give SOME kind of references to claims such as " How about the fact that the god of the bible is one of the most self centered, vicious, murderous, despot in all history".
Please, if capable, give a specific example.
How about the example of God prolonging the deliverance of the Israelites from Egyptian slavery just so he can glorify his own name? He brought plague after plague on the Egyptians afflicting the guilty together with the innocent. He killed the first born child of all the Egyptians! He hardened pharoah's heart so that he would not let the Israelites go, just so that he'd have a reason to continue plagueing the Egyptians. Was all of that suffering really necessary? No! He did just so he can magnify his own name! He cause much death and suffering just so he can magnify himself! If that isn't being self-centered then I don't know what is!
And we have an example of such self-centeredness also being done also by his Son. Remember the story of Lazarus? From the moment Jesus heard of Lazarus sickness he could have healed him without even going to him. But instead he allowed Lazarus to suffer in his illness and die? Why? "For the glory of God, in order that the Son of God may be glorified through it." - John 11:4. So he allowed 2 days to pass to make sure that Lazarus dies, so that he would have to resurrection him to bring glory to himself and his father. Again, we have here an example of Jesus and his father putting their own glory ahead of human suffering. True, Lazarus was raised up, but the whole manner in which it was done makes the self-centered, glory-seeking nature of God very evident.
As for vicious and murderous, there are many examples in the OT.

Magnifying your own name....right.... When you are the best, you don't need to brag. You don't have to force people to respect you, or trust you. YHWH is a thought-form at best, and an ego- maniacal soul-sucking extraterrestrial at worst. Jesus is a peudonym for some guy that bucked the system 2000+ years ago. He made such an impact, that the religious leaders could not erase his record, only pervert it and twist it. The best XIAN can only spout, " Jesus Saves!!" They won't even say," I did it!! I saved those people! I built that hospital!!" No, it had to be Jesus. When Jesus sits back and let's children starve and die, well there must be a plan.
Jesus is the carrot and YHWH is the stick. Both ends are played against the middle by the NWO or whoever is pulling the strings.There can never be an enlightenment of humanity as long as people waver between the vengeful desert God and the free love hippie. Never the twain shall meet, as they say. It's an endless cycle of religiosity that ends with the dummining of the human race. The very act of wasting time trying to reconcile the two views makes you dumb and reduces your usefulness to humanity.
Stop giving credit to entities that do NOTHING. YOU MADE A DIFFERENCE. YOU SAVED THE DAY. YOU FED THE HOMELESS. YOU EFFED UP, GOD WASN'T TESTING YOU. A BABY DIED, GOD DIDN'T TAKE THEM. CHANCE HAPPENED, JEEHOOBER DIDN'T MAKE CHICKENS HORNY. SOMEOME WAS NICE TO YOU, JEEHOOBER DIDN'T GIVE YOU A JOB OR FIND YOUR CAR KEYS.
STOP BEING WEAK. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR LIFE.

That reasoning contradicts itself for a believer as yourself. Is not God far more complex than our brain and nervous system? Is not God far more complex than our ecosystems? Yet you believe that God was not created! By your logic, you give me more reason to say that God MUST have been created! He is far more complex than anything we know. There is no way he wasn't created!
The belief that God has always existed and was not created is even more preposterous and requires a larger leap of faith than the belief that: the known elements of the universe have always existed in some form and out of billions of galaxies with sextillions of planets and stars that one of them (milky way) would contain a planet just close enough to a star in the right orbit with the right amount of resources to produce life over billions of years time. Try another form of evidence please. You said that, "faith is held in the things unseen." Keep to that advice my friend :) Don't use "things seen" as "evidence" for God :)

Take my comment with a grain of salt. Pain meds.... Seriously, we are on our own as far as I can tell. Still, we can be there for one another. Maybe "GOD" wants us to take some responsibility for ourselves.
