Just ignore the ones that used to be elders. They would love to take you to the back room for anything you say or post here. They still think that they got power over people. (listen obey and be blessed) Ehh....

It takes a lot of arrogance to imposeyour beliefs on others.

Who is imposing their beliefs on others? Don't make the mistake of conflating criticism of religious ideas and arguments with imposing beliefs on others. Everyone here is free to believe what they want. I suspect the problem is that you are just a bit bitter that religion in general is getting marginalized. Why is it getting marginalized? It's because the facts are stacking up against religious systems of belief. Is it disrepectful to point out inconsistencies with religion on a discussion forum? Also, this isn't a university, it's a cult recovery forum, so why do you keep drawing that comparison?

    BOTR and OUTLAW,

You guys ususally make sense, but not this time. The theists start this crap. Every few weeks another one comes on this site spewing nonsense about how immoral, unethical, cold, blah blah freaking blah atheists are. The facts say otherwise. I/we wouldn't post this stuff if y'all didn't start it.

Why don't you all jump in when theists post such nonsense and set the theists straight? These are facts supported by very good analysis conducted by educated, credible individuals.

All we/I am doing is defending myself and other atheists from ridiculous, broad based statements which are 100 percent inaccurate. I will stop when they stop.

Both of you miss the point on this one. Theists are theists in large part because they do not think rationally, objectively and analytically. We say that all of the time; the data suggests the same. You both should have avoided the keyboard on this one. But go ahead and call me arrogant. But the man/woman in the mirror looking back at you is the only problem as far as this matter is concerned.

Hard to be, used to be elders?? Take you to the back room? What utter nonsense. Facts are facts. Get mad and say ugly things when you can't win an argument or a discussion. That's theists. We/I don't give a flying you know what about your feelings and beliefs. Take them outside - or to the back room - and play with them by yourself.

BOTR waffles ad nauseam about her university education and how everybody here is beneath her, and Outlaw defaults to his favourite canard that everybody he doesn't like is acting like a JW.

    Yawn....

I`m Not a Believer.....No Faith at all.....I see Absolutely No Evidence of God..

    .

BOTR made a Good Point, there are Zealots on Both Sides..

The Fact shes a Believer doesn`t change that..

Theists don`t always Start the Bullshit..

There are Zealot Atheists who are just as Goofy as the Zealot Believers..

Joining Ranks with Either of Them, will only Ruin a Persons Credibility..

    Outlaw,

Agreed. I'm no zealot, except for life. This forum is my only experience at such things in the past 2 decades. I also agree that both sides start things, but - and you can check my posting history - I avoid theist and scientific dicussions. I care nothing for the former and know little about the latter.

My only point is that the common refrain from the theists about how hopeless, evil, cold, sterile and immoral I am kinda sorta annoys me. Like clockwork, they arrive and spew the same sentiments. Some who have been on this site for a long time and know better also spew the same nonsense.

If the same broad based and erroneous statements were made about blacks, gays, Jews or theists, I would jump in with support. And the former college prof in me grates at definitive statements without empirical data to support them.

    Thanks Outlaw.

Does everyone here see themselves engaged in a cult recovery network? I don't. My experience with things JW happened more than fifty years ago. I was never an adult Witness. As soon as I could stop without being murdered, I stopped. Most people in Manhattan strike me as atheists or clinging to a cultural/familial tradition. When I ride on the subway, no one is hunched over arguing about a doctrine. I studied at a major seminary for a while. No intensity concerned with atheism.

With the exception of the Witnesses, it was always respect other's beliefs. What is left to discuss? It has all been said before to a nauseating degree.

It is interesting b/c I don't see the theist starting anything. My perception is that things became much more hostile about one year ago. I was clear what I thought of voice hearing gurus recruiting followers. There should be a cease-fire so someone might say something that has not been said ten thousands time already. There are certain believers who never finish a thread. They contribute a sermon where they preach and then disappear. I always defended atheists in the past. I know that I am not an idiot and there are hundreds of thousands like me in this region alone. We are adults with certain civil rights. Does anyone come here for instructions on what you may belief and not belief. It is the tone that has changed.

I respected the ring leader. I've had one religion that I chose as an adult. When someone has been through three zealot religions as an adult, how do we know he won't change his mind again next week. Oprah already has a claim to order what people may think. It is interesting b/c one year ago I would have stated that the evangelicals start it. Maybe their departure changed the balance. I don't like being ordered what to believe. A university was chosen b/c the people are very bright, well-rounded, and it is my home.

    Hey DJS!..

My only point is that the common refrain from the theists about how hopeless, evil, cold, sterile and immoral I am kinda sorta annoys me.

I`m annoyed at the Zealot Theists who consider us "Non Believers", hopeless, evil, cold, sterile and immoral also..

Nothing could be Further from the Truth..Most of Us are Decent People..

    The good news is..

Not all Believers are Crazy, they Don`t Mind Us being Non believers..

Like clockwork, they arrive and spew the same sentiments.

Some who have been on this site for a long time and know better also spew the same nonsense..

Yes I know, they`re Hard to Miss..

The same can be said about Zealot Non Believers though..

They`re just as Crazy, they tolerate No Beliefs but Their Own..

    Thanks Outlaw.

    Thank you too DJS..

    It`s a good conversation,I enjoyed it..

BOTR - You are free to believe absolutely anything you want.

I respect your right to imagine that an old man in frock can mumble a few Latin words over a wafer and turn it into the flesh of a dead carpenter.

I would fight for your right to believe that.

This is a religious discussion forum. Expect your superstitons to be challenged ruthlessly and stop whining.
