  This website http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Holocaust/jehovah.html makes this claim:

  Jehovah's Witnesses, in Germany as in the United States, had refused to fight in World War I.

  Apparently, the authors of the Jewish virtual library don't realize that the Jehovah's Witnesses didn't even exist inWW1 and that the followers of the Watchtower Society were called Bible Students then.

  A German website claims that the Bible Students in Germany did serve in the military during WW1.

  I would acknowledge that war is not pleasant. But war is all over the bible and used by Jehovah in the Old Testament extensively. I would ask this individual what would happen if the entire earth took the stance on war as JWs have and then adolph hitler came along? Where would we all be without war after he got through with his agenda?

  The Gospel was preached to the whole world before 70 AD

  "Gospel preached to whole world, and then the end will come" Mt 24:11

  Introduction:

  1. One of the silliest arguments used to falsely claim that Matthew 24 was not fulfilled in the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD, is the idea that it is not until this present day in 2011 AD, that we are finally getting close to preaching the gospel to the whole world, “with the aid of modern technology”.
  2. This is the verse they use: "Gospel preached to whole world, and then the end will come" Mt 24:11
  3. What escapes their notice is a long list of other Bible verses that clearly teach that the gospel had been preached before 62 AD, to the whole world.
  4. The fact that Colossians was written in 62AD, 8 years before Jerusalem was destroyed is proof that 70AD was the total fulfillment of the passage!
  5. Take this simple self test and learn the truth that Mt 24:11 was fulfilled before the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD.
  6. Read the verse and notice the way each speaks of the “whole world”
  7. The basic logic is simple: the way you define “the whole world” in Matthew 24:11, you must apply this same definition to the other verses.

  	Rom 1:8 “First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, because your faith is being proclaimed throughout the whole world.” (Romans 1:8)
  	Acts 17:6 “When they did not find them, they began dragging Jason and some brethren before the city authorities, shouting, “These men who have upset the world have come here also” (Acts 17:6)
  	Col 1:6 “which has come to you, just as in all the world also it is constantly bearing fruit and increasing, even as it has been doing in you also since the day you heard of it and understood the grace of God in truth” (Colossians 1:6)
  	Acts 2:5 “Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven.” (Acts 2:5)
  	Mt 24:14 “This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:14)

  Conclusion:

  1. There is no reason why Matthew 24 cannot be fulfilled in total because of mt 24:11.

  2. The phrases are identical, the fulfillment obvious:

  a. “This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:14)

  b. “the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, was made a minister.” (Colossians 1:23)

  c. “your faith is being proclaimed throughout the whole world.” (Romans 1:8)

  3. Rapture advocates generally are not influenced by what the Bible says, but the honest seeker can see the truth.

  1. This truth doesn't make exciting Religious TV preacher programming, complete with news clippings and “the end is near” hysteria, but it is the truth!

  Orphancrow, that was an interesting read on the 1915 war in Europe, in the old german script, changed in ~1937. One tidbit from that long read, A german sodier, a witness receiving literatur from WT Headquorters and going House to house in a French village, and placing books in the trenches, remitting the proceeds to the Wt office. all this between bouts of fighting.

  In those days warfare was considered part of a christian's lot. Faithfullness to death a virtue.

  If all the world humans were JWs, wt adherents, of course there would not be world wars, only underground wars about position, prestige and "good" seats at assemblies at 8 am sharp.

  The entire premise that platitude is based on is false. Approaching the platitude directly will not convince a JW. In order to make an effective argument, a JW needs to look beyond their false premise. This is not always easy, but there are ways to do this. There are even university courses that teach this type of abstract thinking, but it is a discipline, and requires a certain amount of mental practice.

  Apart from the obvious fact that other faiths such as Quakers, have similar dogma, the key here is help a JW see their premise is wrong. The following lines of argumentation need to be applied:

  a. Many individuals have a strong belief in some sort of pacifism. A religion is not necessary for this position. Are individual JWs more inclined toward this than the average person? Are they not simply following someone else's, (their group's), conscience on this matter? Which person represents somone standing on higher moral ground, a follower or someone making the choice out of their own conscientious decision?

  b. As Cofty mentioned, is pacifism even a virtue? Even as a JW, I knew that protecting my family and loved ones knew no limits. If someone were to put them in harm's way, it is game over for them. Can this not be extropolated to my neighbors? Community? Country? It is really about protecting what is ours, or even protecting someone in danger. It is a necessary evil at best. No sane person wants war.

  c. Look at the conflict within the congragations. Why does that conflict even exist? Does it originate with the individual, or might the environment play a bigger role than one thinks?

  This line of reasoning will not convince someone overcome with cognitive dissonance, (any believing JW), but it will possibly plant a seed of thought that may germinate later in life.

  The reality on this is that there are scores of other groups of people that will refuse to go to war or even encourage their children to serve in the military.

  Also, there are many other religious associations that do preaching work all over the world. However, our proselytism is so well organized and public that it has become our trademark.

  I loved to hear a couple of years ago in the movie 'Argo', which won many accolades, mention that the people "were going door-to-door like Jehovah's Witnesses" looking for the embassy workers. Or in the 'Coming To America' movie, when they want to dismiss the person at the door, the father says "Oh, it's just Jehovah's Witnesses". What a high!
