jwsons,
I agree with you completely: let the WTS sue DateLine. Any time a National TV News magazine is sued it is major news.
Headline: "DateLine Sued By Religion For Violating Their Privacy Rights."
"The Watchtower religion is suing DateLine for not obtaining their permission to record a conversation where Watchtower lawyers told the caller to walk away from reporting any case of child rape if it wasn't witnessed by at least two people."
"Watchtower spokesman, J.R. Brown sternly stated, "our rights were violated."
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Sue away, you Watchtower Cult! I'm sure the world will support you in protecting your "rights" while you continue to allow children be raped daily and work so diligently to shield their rapists from punishment.

Intersting thought. The Watchtower may decide to report a matter to secular authorites to protect their child damaging policies, but victims of child molestation are discouraged from reporting matters to the secular authorities to protect a child?
Seems quite bass ackwards to me.

It's simple: NBC has done all this before. They have reviewed phone laws more times than we can count. They are confronted with this choice DAILY. And NBC has taken on state and FEDERAL governments when they were in the wrong. They are pro's & took their time.
WTS has more to lose on going active public on this. They are in their normal mode: stonewall, say next to nothing, hunker down & ride it out. They function best in the DARKNESS created by the absence of public glare.
That is because WTS figures it is just a one-time event. They can ride those out, but what about the next batch of events?

All that I write or utter is considered to be protected by religious freedom under the Constitution of the United States, as the "free exercise" and "freedom of speech" clauses.

mustang you are right:
WTS has more to lose on going active public on this.
Dateline knows and does the WTS, Dateline may have been in the wrong legally on this but does the WTS want to keep this issue in the minds of the public? They the WTS just wants this dirty little secret to go away. Will
