dustrabbit,
I'm sorry she did that to you, I wish people didn't do shitty things to each other like that.
Is that were you found your freedom or did freedom come later when you desired not to take it any more, when you said you are worth more than that, when you said that's not love and that's not for you? I'm shunned by my JW family but I know I can walk out my door and into other good relationships or I can pick up the phone and call people who care about me. my point is that there are others who can fill the void and give hope to people who step to the edge of violence and sanity.I don't think what we find in resentment and hate is freedom.

well, the spirital/mental freedom came when i was young (read my post in personal experiences)...the physical came much later...i will post this sooner or later, i just need time to write a well-thought out post...i have written a lot about my JW days beofre, just not how I got out physically from the JWs.
that's true about other people who filled the void, in fact I might post a bioghraphy of the old man in job corps who was my dorm counsellor. He was inspired to beceme a mental health counsellor becuase, as he told me, of a JW teenager he taught in high school back in the late 1950s. I guess he helped the kid get out by loaning him a copy of "Catcher in the Rye".
And even my intro to literature professor helped me along, in fact, she's still my mentor and helped me get into writing.

Basically what you are hinting at (or outright advocating) is for the WTS to modify it's position based on a sense of fear of retaliation from former members, citing some pretty extraordinary, senseless and highly victimizing events as supporting evidence that this "fear" should be a sufficient motivator.
Do you not see the fundamental problem with this POV?

Months ago this issue came up. It seems to be coming up more all the time. I have warned of increasing violence against the WT. In the past there have been bombings of Kingdom Halls, fires set to Kingdom Halls. Done by whom? Would it be safe to say that this is done by former members who have been terrorized by the GB doctrines? Not necessarily. When a husband sees his wife fade away from him because of biblestudy or similar there is an anger that comes up which is incomparable to anything else.
I have had terrible times escaping from within the WT Walls. I have had times where I said in myself I'm gonna get even with these bastards. I have heard angry ex JW's say: "I'm gonna burn all the Kingdom Halls down."
In earlier posts of mine I've warned of increasing violence against the WT. If the WT does not change their policy on how they handle the victims they created themselves it stands to reason that the danger of violence against the WT will indeed increase.
What scares the hell out of me is the fact that the summer conventions are coming up and my ex-wife is gonna be there with my kids. I do not want anything to happen to them.
So if any of you out there reads this. Violence against the WT will not help the ones still within the WT Walls. Let's do our best to get them out first.
Please.............Andy
If the WT continues to shut their eyes to the writings on the wall, then their death toll will only increase, making their hands drip of blood. Doesn't revelation say: "Get out my people unless you want to share in the same sins as she"?

Your post is logical given the situation just as you aptly stated.
People are people, they will reacte as people WT does not use good sense when they insinuate only they are all wise and all the rest of socicty is satanic. Pepper -

You make some good points, but I am "violently" opposed to violence against those in the BORG, for 3 reasons:
1 It will just make them feel they're on the right side. 2 Violence against members of a cult is senseless and cruel, much like the Tower itself. 3 We would just be lowering ourselves to the level of the GB if we did anything violent against them. Remember who the murderers are here! -

I don't think anyone is advocating the use of violence like this but that it may one day happen if they continue to wreck people's lives is inevitable.
Example: Loyal JW lives the JW life faithfully and makes many sacrifices. His wife dies during childbirth because of the blood issue which is later changes. His precious little daughter is abused and raped by an elder and it's covered up. etc. ...
I can see a scenario where someone would be so pissed off that they want to get some payback. (this was just an example BTW).
No, it wouldn't be right and no, I would not recommend it and hope no one ever does (more because they would be hurting themselves) but if the WTS continues to mess with peoples lives in the way that it has then one day, they are going to do the wrong thing to the wrong person who will snap and do something silly.
BTW: A coupleof years ago our District Convention in Manchester had a Bomb Scare and was evacuated (it wasn't me BTW !)

IW,
I'm not going to get off topic here and debate what Lincoln did. You will notice I did not mention either Lincoln or the war. You made a statement that you thought violence is NEVER right. I disagree and cited a couple of examples. I maintain that slavery would not have been abolished in this country without violence. You are reading more than I am writing.
I am on the side of those here who do not want to see violence used against the WTS. However, I do see the potential for such action on the part of some very angry and dis-gruntled former members or associates. That is what Lee was pointing out, and I agree with him. Too many here are taking off on this and suggesting that he somehow is whipping up a mob for violence. That's rediculous and obvioulsy not the case, as anyone with a logical mind can determine. Please do not put words into the mouths of others. Your emotions are getting away from you. Take a pill, or go for a swim around that island you are on.

I am very impressed that given the amount of sheer anger and frustration among exJWs that there isn't more violence. That there hasn't really been any major incidents would probably indicate that in the future, exJWs will continue to act in a responsible manner.
I also think that as more people leave and find out the real truth, the chances for such incidents do go up. At the same time, an ever-increasing exJW community that provides the support needed to those leaving might help offset some of that potential for violence.
I think as a community we should be alert to anyone expressing violent thoughts against the WT and have no tolerance for these sorts of things. But given how this community has conducted itself in the past, I don't see any real need to be paranoid over what *could* happen.
