I often wonder if apostasy could be defined as the "silent problem", as the majority who leave for this reason choose to fade saying nothing. In all the decades I was a witness I could probably count on 2 hands those who were disfellowshipped for apostasy.I must admit it wasn't until I came on the internet that I fully realise the depth and extent of the problem. I think of that young girl high school speech that went viral, and you can't tell me all those 300000+ views were all none jws. Clearly witnesses are viewing this stuff. With out a doubt I think the majority are leaving or been forced to leave because of immorality. The reason for this is because immorality is very much a physical thing that can be seen by the eyes where as apostasy can be a mental thing that isnt so physically visible to see. So in light of this how many people (peak publisher - baptism) do you think leave each year because they have turned apostate. -

I really think that any number in response to that question can only come from one place.

if witnesses knew how many faded walked amongst them they would plotz. It could unravel the whole thing.
The orgs stance on apostasy is both a problem and a solution, a frustrating symbiosis. Like the Matrix.

So long as there is one person who is honest with themselves and leaves the Org and branded an apostate, there are many in the minds of the indoctrinated JW. -

Over 600,000 views now ...
About a year ago one left our hall. DA'd. No family but she let it be known she didn't agree with doctrine. Those in the know say she went apostate.
Now as for faders one went six months ago but didn't specify why - I hear that she won't answer the door/take phone calls. It was sudden but unannounced. I suspect it might be pedo/apostasy but can't be sure. Perhaps she just got fed up waiting for Armageddy.
When I was an elder not one DF/DA went for Apostasy - it was always unpermitted sex! (With an isolated fraud case too) Though funnily enough six with Irish connections went within two years in the early 1980's following Ray Franz and "trouble in Ireland".

We had to df a 20 your old girl in our assignment for apostasy. She was in love with a local in our assignment and went on practicing " brujeria".
Went to a " Brujo" , killing a chicken at night, just to get the guy as a novio. Never had seen something like that before. In the same country as were R.Franz served for a while.

I willing to bet since the internet picked up steam around 2010 as far as access and download speeds the number of people leaving for apostasy and knowing something isn't right has gone up big time. -

The other thing is that once you walk, leave, or fade any dubz who will talk to you..and they are few and far between will not tell you about any others who have done the same. They don't want you getting together to find out what happened to them and/or form your own group of faders..... -

How big of a problem is Apostasy? There is a 1% per year disfellowshipping rate and the apostates that get df'd are most likely a small portion within that group. However, there is likely to be a relatively large number of still-in, underground apostates that never get discovered. They probably make up several percent. -

Apathy takes far more JWs down than apostasy ever could.
Apathy rules, okay!
Apathy is doing a fine job all by itself.
For most, uncontrollable yawning is good enough reason to quit, whereas for a tiny handful, it's nonstop doubt over the GB's haughty claims. You need a brain to doubt - and therein lies the reason apathy wins out over apostasy because apathy thrives in a brain-free zone.
