In fact, I went to California last summer, which is on the opposite side of the continent from where I live and all my assumptions about it were wrong AND I LIVE HERE.

Heck! Most Californians don't know much about California! Most "southerners" believe that Cali stops at Bakersfield. Most don't know that Cali is the largest Ag state in the nation and that the central valley(that stretch of land that separates us from those snooty Northerners, oh yeah..THAT'S Cali too) grows 20 percent of the WORLDS produce.

Oh yeah...we have Disneyland and Hollywood too.

    Francois,

Was he the American pilot in the film "Pearl Harbour" who won the Battle of Britain all on his own?

You're right about Chamberlain though - a complete fool. But thank you for pointing out to me that Britain joined the war on December 7th 1941.

The point is I'm very grateful for what America did during the war. I like Americans. I think most of the British people do too. I think the media is to blame for most pre-conceptions.

Let's turn the tables - I want to know why, everytime I go to the UK (at least once a year) someone has to spurt off some nasty anti-American comment to me. I am not a loud obnoxious overweight American. I'm a very quiet person who dresses in a toned-down goth fashion (down to the dyed black hair) and wears a size 5. But yet, the few times I've had to open my mouth, someone has to say something negative about America. Yea, I know we're not the best and I know we were jerks in World War II coming in at the last minute, etc...., and numerous of us throw things at the TV during the evening news because we love to give lots of hints to terrorists about where to strike next, but I can't help where I was born....can't we all call a truce?

No problems Zenpunk, call a truce I will, perhaps I under-estimated the sensitivity here, have an excellent day mate, wish you well in everything you do.

I will say that at this time American's are extreamly "sensitive". Can you even imagine what it is like to worry each day about another terrorist hit? I have never been out of the USA, but I am proud to be here , free . Most of my life it seemed like a pretty safe place to be, compared to other countries you read about in the paper. But now , we are all just worried that someone we love will be attacked. The 4th of July is coming up, big fun national holiday, but many are scared to be in big public places. The security everywhere is on high alert. The water departments, are even increasing their security, that is so terrifing to us. At any given time , a suicide bomber could hit anywhere, and we are just like sitting ducks, not seeing it coming. It is hard when your little children are so afraid that they are going to die like the people in the World Trade Center. And of course these are not unfounded fears ,we are in war, and get new threats everyday. I have never really involved myself in politics, being raised JW, I was all for God's Kingdom. But I am an American and I want my way of life to be one of freedom , so I am sensitive when someone calls all of Americans ignorant . I just hope that other countries that are not being attacked ( YET) in the way we are, stop and think what we must be feeling.

invisible. If I recall, not too long ago you demanded to be deactivated as celtic. You even sent me several emails threatening me with legal action if I did not do it. Yet, within a few weeks you had re-registered ... obviously it means something to you.

BTW: I don't think you're funny ... I think you've spent too long in your 'think tank' and forgot to leave air-holes.

Where were the Americans at the Battle of Britain, Stalingrad, Kursk, El Alamein, Sinking of the Bismarck, Defence of Singapore and Burma ??

We were building up a virtually non-existant army of 140,000 men to several million. We were constructing defense plants to turn out more planes, ships, and munitions than the world has ever seen, a lot of it being sent to England on a lend-lease program that was never paid back (nor was it ever asked for or expect to be). We were also wondering why at the end of WW I, England and France made such impossible reparation demands on Germany .... in a large part, but for that, there never would have been a Hitler, nor a Battle of Britain, Stalingrad, Kursk, El Alamein, nor even a Bismarck to sink. (Then again, we never would have found out what great allies Great Britain and the USA have become.)

Was he the American pilot in the film "Pearl Harbour" who won the Battle of Britain all on his own?

You're right about that...I'm a history buff, and that part of the movie stood out like a sore thumb. The magnificent bravery and courage of the British pilots can never be overstated...I think Churchill said it best...."Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few."

No, I am suddenly glad I don't live in Britain, where people have lived like this for decades.
