I think I was pretty lucky in that the 2 ladies who came to my door right after Dateline were pretty receptive. I was able to connect with one of them on a really personal level. The other just kept repeating herself but we were able to have an excellent discussion and the one said she would be talking to the elders about this pedophile problem and wouldn't let anyone shut her up Hope she meant it. At any rate they know where I live now so I doubt they will be sending any more dubs here.

I'm not sure however how I would have handled it if they had not been willing to listen. If I can't reach their heart in the first few minutes (and probably wouldn't if they were the elders) it might be a real waste of time. I know when the ladies came to the door that initially I was angry. But I quickly realized that would get me no where with these two and went for the softer approach.

I think how we deal with them depends on who we are talking to. The robots are a waste of time. But... if I can get past my anger and into their heart I can get them thinking... I hope.

I have talked to very few JWs over the years. How I respond to them is in large part a function of how they treat me. The ones I have met have been nice and I have been nice in return. I even got a year's subscription to the magazines on two occasions. Now, if I run into some young, arragant know it all, I sure that I will be quite confrontive.

There is a real thing of familiarity here. Call it deja vu; (used that one in the last posting. Hmmm...???) This reminds me of dealing with my father.

Since talking to him is out of the question (he bullies his way into dominating the conversation) I decided to answer his letters point-for-point.

He had asked "what did I ever do to you"? [He doesnt understand that I told him to STOP PREACHING TO ME over 600 phone calls ago!!!] Well, I had quit taking his phone calls.

After I listed the 600+ phone calls and about 20 other things that were wrong, I got a letter back that totally ignored them.

I discovered that I was in a "battle of wits" with an unarmed man!!!

DUBS ARE BRAINDEAD!!!!

Questions to ask the JW's about Dateline:

1) How do you think that Erica FEEEEEEEEELS since she is shunned and her convicted rapist gets the companionship of ELDERS?

2) How do you think that I , as a householder FEEEEEELL when I see Jehovah's Witnesses walking door to door and laughing, probably planning lunch, and I think about the rape survivors being shunned, not invited?

3) Would you like a mailing address for Erica, and Holly and Heather and the other girls so that you can express how sad you are for what they went through and how you hope their future is better?

4) How do you think I, as a householder, feeeeeeel when I see a JW at the door and have to wonder if he is a rapist that you are protecting, not reporting, for punishement or for treatment?

Well, hell...I had a carload of them come into my neighborhood...no one knows me here as a witness, so they were surprised that the bearded dude who was trimming the yard walked over to ask them if they were lost. They said they were just looking for a place to park while they did their thing. I was hoping to invite them in for a cup of iced tea where I could quiz them on pedophelia in the cong. and I told them they could park off the street in my drive.

Next time they come back...I'm going to use some of the points brought up here....not necesarrily to "de-convert" them, but rather to get them to use their own brains that god put there for a reason.
