Picky-Ass Christian thrift store

Today, I went to drop off some donated items at a Christian thrift store.(NW Christian) Before I went, I called them to ask what they would accept. When I got there, the two that unload the FREE ITEMS that I was to donate hemmed and hawed and said, "well I don't know...." Now, this wasn't junk, people. A late model working vacuum cleaner, the cool kind with the hose and attachments, some motorcycle boots that my son grew out of, not worn out, just too small for my boy, cost $200.00 new, plus various and sundry items all in very good shape that the store said they would accept. "How 'bout I just go buy some new stuff to drop off", I said sarcastically. So, I got frustrated, and told them that I would just take the items to a place that would appreciate them, and left.

Then there's good 'ol GoodWill. They took all the stuff and were very appreciative.

Anyone else have a "charity" reject your goods?

It certainly sounds like your stuff was "thriftshop worthy." Go figure!

I donate my stuff to a thriftshop that supports a local crippled children's hospital. The only thing they ask is if donating appliances, that they work. They will even pick the items up.

They must be catering to an "exclusive" clientele .

No...I usually give all my stuff to my JW Mother in law. She doesnt reject anything! She said she knew some poor people where she lives! (JW'S) I figured..aw..they need clothes too! So I always gave them to her.

    The funny part????Ready????

I found out she has ALL my stuff (I'm talking a lot of stuff here) stashed in her attic! She hasn't been giving any of it away...except to her JW daughter in NY. Who lives in a $250,000.00 house! And when she comes to visit she always visits "Moms Store" ..I always see her wearing things I gave her Mom for the"poor people".

Now I find out she is having a huge garage sale! And wants me to help her..I guess she doesn't remember where she got most of it! LOL

And she also loves to shop at all thrift stores..and goodwills and yard sales... It doesn't bother her conscience...and she isn't afraid the demons are in them! She has more clothes than she will ever wear in her lifetime! (She is 80 and very active!) LOL

Funny...all the JW's at the hall I went to NEVER went to a yard sale..might have a "Demon" in them .She thinks that is "Stupid!"

Maybe it's a territorial thing??? LOL

A few years back, I purchased a new dining room table and a sofa for the living room. I called the Goodwill to have them pick up the older stuff. When they got to the house, they actually refused to take the items because they stated that the table was missing pieces. It was a small table with only three chairs, not four. They wanted to take the sofa, but I wouldn't let them.

None of the items were in disrepair either, BTW. The sofa was only a few years old, had been given to me and I'd finally purchased a set that matched the room decor. Same with the dining room table.

When they left, I promptly called The Salvation Army and they were more than thrilled to have the items.

    TR,

Yes, our local St. Vincent and Salvation Army are very picky while Goodwill will pretty much accept anything and gladly take the time to give you a receipt to write off your donation on your taxes. It is so strange but I guess it all depends on whos in charge at the time.

    Golden,

That is so funny. It reminds me of my family talking about the great possibility of material items being demon posessed. Ironically, we frequented many antique and thrift shops and nobody ever mentioned a thing then.

TR, I ran into the same thing about a month ago. My wife got into a get rid of stuff mood. She called a neighborhood church who had a thrift shop. They had all kinds of rules, so we just went to our local Goodwill and they took everything, no questions asked.

Yes; can't remember which one, but I think it was the Salavation Army. I had some desks to get rid of when closing my "secondary" business. Well, i discovered desks would have to be given away (glut on the market); so we called the thrift stores. The picky one would not take them UNLESS THEY WERE SALEABLE AS AN ANTIQUE!!!

BTW, I'm gonna grade you with a "G" on the title; good work. We won't bother with the W or I.

Thanks, 'stang. The last time I got a "G" was on my very last talk as a m.s.- Masturbation! And you guys thought that was a guitar in my pic.

I go to a thrift store down the road from me. It's a great little store, they take anything you give them and if they don't think they can sell something they put it in their free box.
