Its funny I was just talking to my Grandmother the other day on the phone and she was telling about how the Watchtower said the internet is bad. She told me it used the example of this young women that met a guy on the internet and went to meet him and he killed her. She told me not to go in those chat rooms because all there are is them crazy people. I just thought that was hilarious. Like everyone who goes into a chat room is going to die.

Well....that's what she was told by the "never-lying" Faithful & Discreet folks.....
(Like) "everyone who goes into a chat room is going to die."
This is probably the title of a "lifesaving" article in the October KM!!!!

{Bear in mind that our heavenly father has an appointed channel of communication, "the faithful slave and discreet slave." That "slave" has the responsibility to determine what information is made available to the household of faith, as well as the "proper time."}
Hmmm....
The FDS doesn't have as much "bandwidth", so that must be the "narrow & cramped path" as compared to the Internet, which is "broad & spacious".
Yup, ya just gotta know your interpretations, Mike.

I guess this means the WTS will be getting rid of its website?

I think I heard that story at least 10 years ago when I was still going to meetings about the woman who ended up dead because she ventured onto the internet! Has that story ever not been used as an example of the evils of the internet? It always amazed me how readily the negative was embraced and the positive was ignored in any situation. I for one will always be grateful to the internet and to xjw sites. Without one particular website, I would never have met my wonderful husband, and for that I will be forever grateful!

This is a good point, and one I always think of when I think about the Wt coming down hard on the internet. They can only warn people of the "proper" use of the internet, not discourage it's use altogether.

Apart from copyright regulations, which seems a bit petty, how can they justify this viewpoint?
Surely, if what they believe is the truth and they have a commision from God, then any means possible to get their message out should be used and welcomed? ESPECIALLY one as powerful as the Internet.
What possible motive is there for keeping their publications off the net? Other than secrecy and shame.

I was wondering if the Society felt the same way when the telephone was invented and when the radio was invented and then the television and it seems with every new thing the Society told of its evil side and low and behold doesn't the society itself now use all these devises themselves. Oh I forgot, they use it only for good things. Like making clandestine rendezvous with same sex partners in hidden areas of you know where places. Oh dear me what about those movies hidden under mattresses. Lets meet up with some boys tonight at a club. I makes my sick. I am glad they are being exposed, and last night I got an email from Mouthy the the WatchTower was raided in London on the 19th of August. I am glad. I can't stand it, the Society has a bad view about everything until it serves a purpose for them. Hypocrites.!!

I'd be hard pressed to find the reference but the Consolation
criticized "modern music" as bad - in the 1940's !!!!!!All that swing and big band stuff just ruined the world!
