Smoke gets In Your Eyes.

I was just wondering, how many of us here took up smoking after we left the witnesses?

I have to admit that it was just about the very first thing that I did when I finally received that sumbeam of enlightenment that JW's were simply not anything special. I drove out to a country pub, bought 2 Panatellas and a half of Red Barrel, and spluttered my way through my first cigar n' pint.

Later that week I bought 20 Dunhill, and sat in front of the telly and smoked the lot. Oddly, out of the dozen or so of us who all left around the same time, only 4 or 5 of us took up the habit on a regular basis.

Moving on to more enlightened times, when we had the get together last month, I think that there were only 1 or 2 smokers out of the +17 ex's that were present. (I packed it in 5 years ago, and didn't find it too difficult.)

So, I was just wondering what sort of percentage of ex's do take up smoking after they have left, or is it something that people now shy away from, regardless of having gained their new-found freedom?

Englishman, the night I decided I could no longer live up to being a witness, out of what I had just learned and my own feelings, I lit up.

I did it because for years I dreamed I was smoking while out in service and I would wake up in terror wondering hoping I just didnt go crazy and do it. I have never smoked being a witness all my life and hate the smell of cig smoke.

But I was being rebellious and wanted to do it as a symbol to myself ,,,,,, right there under the Kansas stars, while we were out of town working, I knew God saw me and I didnt care. That was a year ago in June. I pick up a cig about once a week and smoke sometimes when I drink. I don't ever smoke everyday and I don't know why I even do what I do...... most people do not beleive me when I tell them I smoke a cig like some smoke a cigar, ( I smoke cigars occassionally too) just once a week. I think I am doing just because I want to. Still rebelling i guess.........I have told this story before and got good advice about not smoking,,,,,,, I know it is true, but there are also alot of other things that are harmful we all do, ,,, my moto live and let live,,,,,,,,, I would never smoke in someones home or in a restaurant, or if it offended someone , that is just me.

I have also , went on a gambling river boat,,,,,and played slot machines, been to bars, played the lottery, drank way too much,,,,,, ( did that while a jw too) , stayed out way to long, and even watched a few demonized movies...............oh my!!!!!!!!

Smoking was one of the things the Dubs were right about. It does kill.

I watched my mom struggle first with emphysema, and then trying to quit cold turkey when she got baptized. It made quite an impression on my 17 year old mind.

I never so much as touched a cigarette since. I've been tempted to try the "wacky-tobbacky" a few times, but I'd need to find a different delivery method.

I have other vices, however, that I will keep to myself (evil grin).

The only thing I've smoked is my dinner, much to my wifes horror. How was I to know the bacon would catch fire?

Anyway smoking has never appealed to me, so I dont think I will ever try it, unless I was a little drunk sometime. Now that happens alot.

I started smoking when I was 15 (that is the age I was df'd). When I was 17 I was puffing down 2packs a day!! I only smoke maybe a half pack (if I am not drinking) or less. I do smoke more when I drink. I wish I hadn't started though.

Weird thing is, I did enjoy a bit of blow occasionally. However, having given up niccotine, makes it very difficult to enjoy a spliff, and no way am I having that baked into a cake!

Unfortunately I started smoking a couple of years after I stopped attending meetings.

    I blame peer pressure!
