    minimus,

: ONLY....NO. I know many, many Witnesses that truly believe that the teachings of the JW's are correct.

There's only one fool-proof way to test this issue, and that is to convince JWs that Jehovah has revealed to his FDS there will be no Armageddon, no paradise earth, no resurrection and no afterlife, but he still wants dubs to continue as always.

Then and only then will we really know if dubs would stay in in big numbers and keep doing all the stupid stuff they do.

Some people will stay in a religion because that's all they know. How many Catholics say, "I was born a Catholic and I will die one"? People believe in things or don't for various reasons. There is no fool proof way of testing the issue. As was mentioned, many good people find a comfort zone and don't want to get out of it. Are they terrible people because they may be brain dead? I don't think so.

Bullshit. I gave one. Even though it ain't gonna happen it IS a full-proof way to test JW motives. Measure the membership before the greed and fear factors and removed and then measure the JW membership after the greed factor is removed. If you remove the greed factor, the fear factor's power over people is greatly diminished.

Name ONE religion which has prospered where there is absolutely NO reward offered for this-life sacrifices. Well?

Fine, all religions offer something for being good...hell, heaven, etc. You measure a religion based on greed. Call it what you like. People are attracted to things because of benefits. Get a job, and the first thing you want to know is , "what are the benefits". Is this greed? 2 people think about marriage. what are the benefits? Is this greed?

If new light were to say there is to be NO new system of things after all, woopsie daisies, our mistake, sorry folks...then I think you would see a mighty exodus of younger ones who would leave while they still had time to make the most of what time they have left in 'this system of things'...but the older ones would remain and stand firm.

I doubt that you could ever test this...as the living forever on paradise on earth is a fundamental teaching...and if you take this away, you take away the stanchion.

It is also the bait to bring in new meat...new meat means more slave labour, more slave labour means more money, and money is what its all about!

My mother (brain-dead JW for over 60 years!!) tells me now that she doesn't even bother getting too close to anyone in her own congregation, because of the risk that other people pose to her chances of getting into the "New System".

There's true Christianity in action for ya!

Of course this is just a strawman. On one hand, we have jobs and marriage, and on the other we have motives for serving a God. In a marriage, one of the supposed givens is reciprocal love. In a job one of the supposed givens is wages/benefits for services.

If one TRULY and unconditionally loved God, one would do what God wanted that one to do for the sheer benefit of expressing that love for God.

However, humans being the way they are, and if that were the case, religions would be nearly non-existent.

Therefore, greed is a factor for serving God. It is so obvious, I cannot understand why you don't want to see it. I'm not saying it's bad. I'm saying it's obvious.

This is a classic quote, when many years ago I questioned my Father on " what if you've got it wrong" I asked him this after leaving myself and had one of those very bitter arguments with my family, his response was and I quote

"Well at least we've been good people" !!!!!

Yep and I'm not a good person then Dad?.....gee thanks a lot

    Hi Minimus,

    You said

I have family that are Jehovah's Witnesses who do not believe most of the teachings of the watchtower society, however, they remain in the truth for a number of reasons, one of which because it encourages them and their families to be moral human beings. Some people need their morality legislated before they take it seriously. So, in that sense, yes, they believe that some of the teachings of the witnesses are correct.

So, taking away the prospect of living forever on a paradise earth would mean little to them. They don't believe it anyway.
