I would like to know SPECIFICALLY what HE personally did to make the economy so robust during his presidency.
Farkel,
You know as well as I do that the President's primary function is to set the tone for the his Adminstration. An ample amount of research has already been done in the thread Trauma linked, a discussion that most Larc, DannyBear and I had over a year ago.
Which of Clinton's many accomplishments are solely HIS? Who can say. One of the reasons for his great success was that he didn't care who got the credit. It was his job to set the tone, push thru his agenda, and work toward its implementation. I said and will keep saying that based on his record -- LIKE IT OR NOT -- he was one of the Greatest Presidents of the modern era. Period.
Your boy Bush has been headed in quite the opposite direction since about twenty minutes after being sworn in! I'm sure he thanks god everynight for the War On Terrah. If if wasn't for that and being able to tap into American patriotism, he'd be in very deep doo-doo right about now.

I laugh at the notion that Republicans are somehow more fiscally responsible than Democrats. Under Reagan, the national debt was quadrupled. Under Clinton, we had a balanced budget. Under Bush, we have again begun increasing the debt and no longer have a balanced budget. To top that off, Bush is now rushing to attack Iraq to divert attention from his own failed domestic policies and scandals, including, without limitation, accepting over $1 million in campaign contributions from Enron and apparently giving them special favors, corporate scandals rampant and out of control, and the absolute rape of the Constitution by his hired gun, John Ashcroft. The big difference between the two parties is how they spend, as opposed to how much they spend. Republicans believe in corporate welfare, subsidies for congressional friends, etc.. Democrats believe in social programs to help the poor and less fortunate. The idea that Republicans are superior in a fiscal sense is pure bullsh@t. We weren't in a recession when Bill was president, but the economy went to hell as soon as the village idiot took power.
Francois, I can't help but laugh at the notion of Democrats taking away rights. It is the Republicans who have savagely attacked the bill of rights through such Supreme Court nominations as Rehnquist, Scalia, and Thomas. These three extremists are gutting what rights we have left, and they coincidentally appointed dubya as our leader. Have you noticed the absolute rape of the Constitution perpetrated by Attorney General John Ashcroft? Using the fear of terrorism, Ashcroft and his fascist minions have savagely attacked constitutional rights, including without limitation, the right to counsel, the right to a speedy trial, and the 4th Amendment right to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures.
Using the greatly embellished threat of terrorism, we are now poised to attack Iraq, but none of our allies except the redcoats are willing help out. The cost of such an attack is estimated to be over $200 billion. Where is this money going to come from? You guessed it right, the taxpayers, the same folks that some here seem to think are being fiscally protected by Republican rule. Dubya needs that war on Iraq for his reelection, because he's certainly failed in his domestic policy efforts. Too bad our economy will be the real loser.

If anyone has a brain they'll will agree with these main points.
The economy IS NOT BUSH'S FAULT! Period! End of story!
1. Bush inherited an overinflated, tech based market.
2. Saudi investors pulled TRILLIONS of dollars out of the stock market after 9/11.
3. Clinton never made any laws to punish corporate fraud because it flourished during his eight years as President.
4. Under Bush the interest rates have been lowered and laws have been put into place to punish corporate leaders who lost people's life savings.
You can lead a horse to water, if it dies of thirst, it's the horses own damn fault.
TT
Clinton cut defense spending to help his surplus.

I see myself as a Democrat, mainly because I abhor the fundamentalist Christians, and Bush seems to have them in his pocket. And they all supported him, so I couldn't agree with them, could I? I don't want anyone, government included, to tell me what is right and what is wrong for ME. That is for me to decide.
Bush is a joke. If he doesn't have a prepared speech, and has to talk off the top of his head, watch out! I cringe when he talks, because he is just so embarrassing.
I have to agree with one of the other posters: No one in other parts of the world had the slightest interest in Clinton's sex life. Friends of mine in Malaysia, asked "what is the big deal about that?.......most men here think he was a lucky man".
Those same friends in Malaysia didn't like Gore, and hoped Bush would be President. I told them if Bush is elected, there will be a war, and you can bank on that! Now, they say they understand what I meant. I also told them he was a puppet for his Daddy and his buddies. (Gore had somehow insulted their Muslim Prime Minister, so they didn't like him.............the protocol there is hard to keep up with)

Clinton was worse than a joke, he was a truly evil human being. He ALWAYS put hisself and his personal needs and wants ahead of his wife, his family and the nation. The Robust Economy came in fact from being set up by Reagan Bush with the aid of a Republican controled Congress. The GAO has now come forth saying the economic figures for Clinton's last year were inflated by 30% and that the Recession we've just come out of started well within the Presidency of Clinton. I disagreed with the Bush Tax cut, you don't give out tax cuts until the public debt is paid off. However, that tax cut is credited with ending the recession early.
Some have mentioned the the debt increase under Reagan. It was that deficit spending that helped end the cold war. At the same time it was the Democratically controlled congress that kept the tax and spend mind set in the government. THANK GOD FOR WELFARE REFORM< we need more of it.
Clinton is a morally bankrupt individual, lust for power has also overcome Hilary (God save us from her) Hilary who wanted to start a "Health Care" system that would have consumed 7% of our Gross National Product (not just tax revenues). We would have ended up like Germany paying upwards of 51% Income taxes.
Bush has inherited Clinton's recession, clinton's overinflated (now deflated) tax revenues, the mess clinton help create in the middle east, a war on terror, and Tom Dashcle (ouch)!

The democrat party has, pure and simple, evolved into the American MARXIST Party.
