I have celebrated Christmas. Some days were fun and others were not. None of them had Christ in it. And you know that Christmas is based on lotsa lies like such as Santa and rudolf. Why wait until december 25 to buy gifts fer your relatives and friends? the nameless one buys gifts for his family at different times of the year. the nameless one is kind to people everyday. dont need no christmas to do that. Christmas is also heavily commercialized. you just enriching Satan's commercial world

    Comforter,

You are speaking to me as if Christmas is the only day that I buy gifts for my family and friends. Ask anybody who knows me, I don't need a special day to buy a little card or gift to show my love. All my friends and family will tell you that I am a generous, giving person. I enjoy doing it. I enjoy Christmas and Birthdays too. So, I will continue to celebrate these holidays as well as show my love by giving presents any time I want to.

Have a happy Halloween, Comforter. I wish you peace.

    Love,

    Robyn

This is an ideal time to use a new feature Simon has for us. See the little horizontal line next to your name? That is the ignore feature. It was designed for mindless trolls who simply want to stir the pot a bit just to get people riled up.

    Bad troll! Down! No biscuit!

I'm just going to pop in my 2 cents on this admiteddly useless thread...(namely because comforter and Yadirf are here...)

So we all know Jesus wasn't born the 25th. Duh... The real problem is, according to the JW policy, is that it's *pagan* in origin. (*thunder in the distance*). The question I'm asking is... and? So? In my college course in Arts, we're presently studying Greek mythology. And you'd be amazed to see how many things in our modern language and everyday lives have a connection to pagan roots. Examples?

The god Eros: The words erotic, erotism are all directly derived.

The god Chronos: Again, chonometer, etc. are directly derived.

The god Hercules: To attempt a "herculian" feat...

The king Sisyphus: To handle a Sisyphean task...

The god Tantalus: The words tantalizing, etc.

    The god Atlas: Self-explanatory.

Tons more, I just can't think of them all. And how about brand names?

Ajax was a god... Nike was a god...

The thing is, there's just too much to put here. There are literally TONS of impacts on our language and everyday culture. And are they pagan? Obviously. Greek mythology was deeply rooted in religion. You should see the temples Greeks built for these mythological gods. Beautiful, but pagan. Now you're trying to tell me that since Christmas is pagan in origin, we shouldn't celebrate it? Hah. Last time I checked, I didn't see people praising the cleaning product Ajax for its strength and wisdom. Or asking wisdom from their shoes. Good luck finding a loophole you can explain yourself out of.

I haven't read all the Replies yet, but here goes...

Everyone can celebrate Jesus Christ's Birthday ANY DAY THEY WANT TO!

Throw "Santa Claus" OUT OF CHRISTMAS and start FOCUSING ON CHRIST!

I think Mindfield just about hits the nail (or nameless one) on the head. Just because we do things that were done in Pagan times, doesn't make them anti-Christian or "bad". Otherwise, everytime we ate, slept or breathed we would be commiting an ungodly act.

There is nothing wrong with celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, the Saviour.

There is nothing wrong with exchanging gifts at that celebration, Christmass.

There is nothing wrong with making it FUN.

    Unless you are a JW!

I once saw a film at church the Baptists made about they got the message of the gospel across to the primative natives of New Guinney by using the local traditions of the people there. Isnt that what the Christian church has done with christmas no more or no less. Barry

"Jehovah" isn't God's name. So now what?

So there is no evidence showing the 25th is not Jesus' birthday, just a common agreement that the 25 was a significant day before Jesus was born on it. Wow maybe I should just go back to the Borg I never get enough bull shit clams like this one, with no evidence. I know, maybe the Catholics hid the evidence in there underground evidence hiding room with the rest of the WT support.

I refuse to take a clim at face value any more! Never again. is there no evidence? None was posted except bull "we all know" statements.

We all know we were force feed bull for so long we are halve full of it. I need to see outside sources.

    Kenneson:

Yardiff, am I really? I would think people are more prone to have banquets to commemorate some event rather than on a continuous basis..

Why isn't the record itself sufficient enough to make a determination? I'll repeat: the account at Job 1:5 does NOT say "birthdays" ... it said "banquet days". Note: "And it would occur that when THE BANQUET DAYS had gone round the circuit...." Too, the fact that it is said that a "circuit" was followed subtly suggests that the words "on his own day" means each particular brother's turn to host the banquet.

So the 7 brothers each had a turn for a banquet (was that everyday of the week, 52 weeks a year)? How often did each's day (you say turn) come around?

The record simply doesn't say ... apparently because it's not an important detail. What is important is the fact that Job's children were flirting with becoming unbalanced, and that's what worried their father. Something that you might ask yourself, since you are so adamant towards thinking that these were birthday celebrations, is if that's what the brothers were in fact doing then why didn't they invite their father to the celebrations? Afterall, it was he that CAUSED their births ... and yet he obviously wasn't in attendance at ANY of their banquets. Too, why didn't the sisters celebrate their birthdays as well?
