what kind of mind-control ?

I need help in finding out just what kind of mind control the JW's use on their members. I have never been a JW, and need some specifics on this to help my sister, who is a JW.

Just what kind of fear tactics did they instill upon you, and other ways of mind controlling?

I know all the doctrines from research I have done, but not really sure on the specific things they said to keep you in, not listen to outsiders, and fear from leaving the orginization.

You all are so helpful in these posts, and I know you all will give me some great info.

In my opinion, it is a basic fear which is taught and that is that all other religions are of Satan. The teaching that the trinity is an evil pagan belief is the major factor. There is a total roadblock in the mind about the deity of Jesus. It's a fear so powerful that to even consider prayer to Jesus is absurd to them. Another big issue for them is of course, the holidays. The average JW cannot believe in any other religion because they have holidays which to them are of the devil. The third major factor is the pronunciation of the tetragrammaton. They are sure that the name of the father is Jehovah and must be used in prayers or else perhaps the prayer is evil too. Most Christians are fine with praying to the Father but that is not good enough for the jw. I wish you all the best with your sister but remember that when you feel frustrated beyond belief with her that your are not alone. Sometimes it is like talking to a wall because witnesses have an invisible wall built up AND they cannot hear you. In their eyes, you know nothing and no one knows anything about Jehovah and Jesus except the watchtower. I can understand how you feel because my parents and siblings are jw's. I left 7 years ago and now am a Christian. If you pray then I would suggest praying for her because scriptural debating will get you nowhere. Love in Christ,

Pork Chop...on some instances your statement might be valid, but you fail to see the very subtle means by which people's belief systems can be manipulated and how said means really can screw up ones lif/relationships. Maybe you want to rephrase your statement to match instances where we might want to pay attention to your post.

Valis I'm perfectly happy with my statement. Mind control does not equate with "very subtle means." It is sooo typical for exiters of any group to moan about "mind control' I'm just bored with it.

Whether you pay attention to my post is completely up to you and of no concern to me. I'll ignore the magisterial "we."

pork chop...we can disagree, which is probably going to be the case, but can you argue that guilt isn't a very strong tool when trying to control people.

Pork Chop, In my opinion your statement is very misguided. I feel confident that the large majority of the posters here would say that they feel that they were under mind control. I know that I was. It's a classic case example too. In this particular high/mind control group, their subltely is their crown of deceit.
