What an outstanding letter. If only the R/F could hear it. But u know, having been raised a jw-3rd generation, not sure i would not have just accepted the brothers words about the apostate beating his fellow slaves . I would have believed all there lies. Truly it took a lot for me to see how unloving and unfair they are. I had so litttle self esteem left-they callled me names and i just set there and let them. However, the day i decided i'd never tell another elder anything personal or discuss a problem with them-well it was a truly liberating feeling. I knew i didn't need them-i could approach jehovah through jesus and talk directly to Him.
I widh i could do what u have done, but for me at this time-it is just better to continue fading. My husband is JW and while he is inactive-he defends it . I talked with him the other night about COC and some of the stuff i had been reading. One thing he did say is even if the jw wer wrong about 607-they aren't far off b/c of the destruction of jerusalem being 70 years later and we have a historical date for that-539 i believe. i never listened very well at meeeting about this stuff-i just blindly beleived what ever the WTS said. i'm finding COC a really hard read-so much data and it skips around a lot.
I asked him how he felt about me reading COC and he is not happy but said do not talk to anyone else about it. So i don't.
Anyway, so happy for u and do EXACTLY WHAT U SAID-MAKE THEM PAY IF THEY CAUSE ANY PROBLEMS FOR U AND YOUR SON. I have heard about people, org's, being sued for things like that. it has been done before and successfully.
best wishes to u.
LB,
Great job! Here's just a minor correction, though:
: Russell claimed that millions how living would never die back in 1925.
It was Rutherford who first claimed that and he did it in 1918. Russell was dead then.
No big deal, but I hope that adds a little credibility to your letter. I'm sure your elder friend wouldn't know the difference, either! Dubs DON'T know their own history very well.
Otherwise, it's one of the best DA letter's I've ever seen and I've seen zillions of them!
Farkel
Hi LB
I know of several who wrote DA letters that made them 'Open Letters' to the whole congregation. They wrote all who they had addresses for, and mailed them all at the same time so that the people received them the day after a meeting. That way, no advance warning can be given to anyone to throw any mail away from you, and most will have read it before the next meeting.
At least that way, the congregation was not left to speculate on why you are leaving, and that you did not do something 'immoral' etc..
Of course, an open letter might not possibly be the best thing when taking your son into consideration, but it could be too, as your son would not feel he had to defend you and make excuses for you to the congregation. He might also hear their vindictiveness toward you and start to 'think' too!
Congratulations, by the way, and our family will be praying for God's will to be done in regards to your situation.

Thank you Farkel, Lew already corrected me. See I was baptized but I sure wasn't paying attention was I???
I appreciate all the comments.
Rachel Jill and I are diving in Monterey next weekend. But, we are trying to work out another trip up north in November before basketball starts. I have practice all week long during the week but no games until December. Cross Country ended for us today at districts and I had every kid get personal bests today but no one qualified for state. So it's over. A little breathing room.
Give Steve a hug, from Jill, not from me, ok? Really, not from me. Give him a hardy handshake from me. A totally straight hardy handshake, ok???
I remember you saying several months ago, you would probably reach this point LB. I hope that it goes well for you , as it has for us. There is no one who really matters to us that shuns us. There is no family to speak of that would have made me stay in. I wish you well and keep us posted as to how this turns out for you.
You go LB!
Damned good letter there, LB. Keep up the good fight. What I love about it is that it is written in a way that shows your determination. As we say in Klingon," Qapla! (success !)"
Very good letter. Very good.
About 20 years ago, I helped an elder write a DA letter. He sent it to everyone in the entire congregation. That way, no misrepresentations could be made by the elders, no lies either which was more likely.
I feel the same as you about the JWs breaking up families. Maybe to make this Frank guy sit up and take notice, you could get your lawyer to send a confirmation letter. Sort of a preemptive strike. You seem like the kinda fella who would go for the preemptive strike.

You have all given me some great suggestions. I will make copies for members of the congregation. I also will have my lawyer send Frank a little note.
Do you think I should send the letter to everyone at the same time or a few days later?
