Can we still be friends, if I disagree with you?

    Mulan:

I guess you can say that it is a sign of maturity to agree to disagree. But when the subject is very important, sometimes you must go the extra mile to "fight" for what you believe.

Case in point: My Ashi was over this past weekend. We had a heated discussion about something that I won't go into on this board, but, since we are both very "vocal" we like to try to prove our points in a very loud, but controlled way. Well, we didn't end up agreeing, but that's still OK. People can have different opinions on things, as long as they don't take out an eye in the process. I still have both of my eyes, and last time I looked, Ashi had both of his.

Tink, we may need to settle our differences in the vat of pudding, but that's OK...as long as you don't hurt me...too bad.. Of course we are still friends. Sometimes I get irritated or sassy, but never to the point of discarding anyone as a friend or colleague. Well, except maybe joy....

Joy, I am not stealing this thread...Mulan has the Lo Jack activated...otherwise I would steal the hubcaps and then the radio...how cool would this thread be then huh? *LOL*..do we need to take this to chat woman? hmm?

    Sincerely,

Yes!...As long as it doesn't resort to personal attacks and name calling...That is so juvenile!

When that happens.. I tend to think it is more of a personal thing than a mere difference of opinions...Time to block the name!

    Snoozy...

Thanks for your comments everyone. I will explain a bit. I don't have a lot of time to be here today, so have to type fast.

I am thinking that if people get too diverse in their opinions, it can kill a friendship, or at least damage it quite a lot.

This is hypothetical, but loosley based on something I am facing now. I love all my friends, and value them so much. I am a confronter too, and say what I think. I try to be fair, and listen to both sides of an issue and make my own decisions. I am unlikely to agree just because everyone else sees it the way one person does. I can admit when I am wrong, and will apologize, and have done that many times, with my children, my husband, and my friends.

It's nice when people agree with you, and unsettling when they don't. When a person chooses to attack you, and calls you names because you don't agree, that is not right............IMO. That hasn't happened to me lately.

Sometimes I think I should keep my mouth shut. I was just wondering what everyone else thought about friendships...................I do NOT want to feel like friendships are conditional EVER again.

President Regan said that if we agree on 90% of issues and disagree on 10% of the issues, that this does not make you and I enemies!
