Gil, there really is no big secret what other people have that you don't. I am a natural introvert, and it took me a long time to figure out how to socially interact. These skills can be learned. Here are a few tips I have picked up over the years.
- Be the kind of person you would like to hang out with. For instance, how fun is it to hang out with someone who talks endlessly about how no one ever pays them any attention?
- Show interest and ask questions of the other person. This may come as a surprise, but most people feel inadequate, lonely, unappreciated at different times. That means they are just like you.
- Look for someone that is lonelier. This really works. My boy had a rough time at high school, watching all the cliques click along at lunch hour, and he felt he had no one. I told him to go find the nerds. Sure enough, there they were, tucked in the back corner playing Magic Cards. They even had groupies hanging around watching the nerds play. He had a lot more fun after that.

Gil, You said in an earlier post that you don't give a f**k. But if you read this then you do. And I'm glad because I do give a f**k or I would not post here.
You seem more than having an issue with a little low self esteem. I speak as one person who had to admit that he has a manic depressive issue. Mine was and is not Gambling, drugs, or sex. It is suffering from narrsistic wounds and watching my mother struggle with 3 kids when my Dad split for Reno. I did not understand this but as a kid I made the desion that I was going to make more money that anyone spend make in 10 life times. AND, I AM going to "save the world." And I will never be like my Dad. No one will control me. I will never try to put others under my thumb.
I have a type A personality with a workaholic mentality. NO vacations, NO time off, yadayada...Sometimes life is like surgery without pain managment. There are "legal" drugs (MIO inhibitors) that might change your life. You will need a phyc or a physi to evaluate you. But Gil this was the hardest thing for me to admit. That I had a problem and I can't want to control it. I don't mean your gambling either that is a symptom of the real problem. Even PTSD can cause this. And if you have a wound on the inside that no one but you can see we don't say or do what you need. The MIO's help to get things in order.
Think about it OK?

I think that what I have done in the past is to find things that would make me feel better. I have realized that I am the one that have to change. I am reading some self help books. That makes me feel better and I am studying for my written test on Friday.
I feel better now. Sorry for depressing everyone. It is just that whenever I get mad I have to let it out somehow. Writing about it makes me feel better. I'm cool now. Peace.

Just got back from Las Vegas on Monday. I'm sorry you are having a difficult time. Hang in there. I found I had a better time in Las Vegas when I wasn't sitting in a casino. I thought the sights, sounds and feel of Las Vegas were wonderful. It was like a trip to another planet. We're going back next april to see Celine Dion
Have you went to the free water show set to music (pink panther theme) on the main drag (Belagio?)...that will put a smile on your face..I believe it's either every 15 minutes or every half hour.
Take care of yourself.

Gil,
next time I come to Vegas I will look you up. I got about three times a year. Have you heard from Rekless? I have not seen him around these parts, though I been pretty scarce myself.
By the way, it's nice to see you.
