Queen finally does something useful

In the UK there has been a big trial going on in which the former butler to Diana Princess of Wales was charged with stealing some of her possessions after her death. He has pleaded not guilty from the start.

This has been going on for close to 2 years, the case dramatically collapsed this morning when the Queen finally decided to get off the royal butt and intervene saying that she knew he was holding some of Diana's possessions. I cant believe she didnt know the details of the trial and that she could have helped him ages ago, but only waited until now to do something. Probably because the butler was due to take the stand next week and would likely have been embarressing for the royals The total cost of the trial so far is something like 1.5 million pounds. British legal system at it best

Some seem to think the queen is a great lady, but from her actions or lack of same after Diana died I came to the coclusion she is a royal pain in the arse. From what I've read Diana was viewed as a "breeding cow" by the royals. Why do you need a queen anyway??

I agree badboy, but I dont see why she couldnt have stopped all this as soon as it started by saying she knew about it. Why wait for the big media circus and let it get to the high court?

I also heard this on the morning news. It really didn't surprise me. I was a fan of Lady Di, and I thought she got the royal shaft by all. But, then again, aren't we all supposed to read the "small print" in contracts, and this is what her marriage was, poor thing. She was in love, and very young, and thought she could change things. Her whole life was ruined because she was "picked" to be the virgin sacrifice.

My understanding is that the butler is holding onto some pretty nasty letters from Prince Philip to Diana. I'd love to have a look-see, but who knows when that will ever happen. Will this butler be able to write a book and publicise this stuff? If the Royals don't want his spilling the beans on the stand, then they' no doubt stop any book. However, I believe the Butler is "holding" these items FOR William.

I think this poor man really befriended Diana, and she grew to trust him. Now, he is having to go through all of this, because "somebody", in fact some of Diana's own family, think he "took" the items. In all truth, I feel Diana was trying to protect her children from scandal, and no doubt, Prince William would have a very difficult taking the throne, (if that ever happens) when such letters, among other things, from his own grandfather would be floating around. Still, Diana must have known that some day, it would be William who would have the right to those items, to do with them as he will.

This time, I don't believe the Butler did it!

I always thought that was something odd about this case,I think the best is yet to come,as there are a lot of questions to be asked over this.

Viva la revolution! ... I would *so* like to get rid of all the royal waste of spaces.

I do not believe the story that they came out with but think the royals have only pulled this stunt now to prevent him being questioned under oath and potential damaging revelations coming out.

What has come out so far about Princess Diana makes her sound like a real heartless bitch. Her mother was writing to her for 6 months before she died and they were all sent back unopened with her writing scrawled across them.

I think they are all as bad (except perhaps for Fergie who I think is pretty genuine and down to earth and earns her way)

We should sell them all to the Americans ... they'd buy 'em
