Sadly, I think this will have a small long term effect in Australia for a few years.

I dont think it will have any effect whatsoever in the U.S.

No more so than the 60 Minutes (was it called that?) that aired the interview with Barbara Anderson.

I think we are excited but I dont see this as any big long term game changer as far as JWs waking up.

The wolves in control will probably have to change their policy a bit, so there is that to be gained I guess.

I really hope I have this whole thing figured wrongly though.

johnamos - Yes, blame the parents. It is, of course, the parents' fault that the elders gave a wink*wink to the known child rapist and protected his identity for years. It is, of course, the parents' fault that the elder assigning car groups knowingly placed that confessed child rapist into a car group with innocent children. It is, of course, the parents' fault that they didn't even know about the abuse for years because the jw-protected child rapist convinced the child its parents would be killed by Jehovah if the child told anyone.

In a normal scenario, the parents would of course run screaming to the police and personally hunt down this monster to seek revenge and/or justice for their child.

However, this is by no means a "normal" situation. Here are the realities:

This is a CULT. A well-trained, fabulously successful CULT that knows precisely how to indoctrinate people to do its bidding and believe its doctrines.
The parents are under the influence of this CULT and obviously are not acting rationally, and therefore do not want to cause people under the influence and control of Satan and his system to have reason to speak ill of almighty Jehovah and his One True Religion.
The elders are under the influence of this CULT and are controlled by the Watchtower Society and the Governing Body, who do everything in their power to protect these child rapists and pedophiles rather than protecting innocent children and their families.

And you know this. And knowing this, you choose to point the finger at the parents? Seriously, you need to reconsider your thinking on this subject.

I am not going to dispute what you are saying, I DO NOT agree with the WTS/GB but my point is that regardless of how wrong they (elders/WTS/GB) are, if the victims (if old enough) and or parents reported these cases to the police to begin with, then there would not be any cases that are said to be unreported cases to the authorities.

If the claim is made that the parents are not just as responsible for not reporting these cases as the elders, etc…are due to being influenced my cultish influences then that means that none of Charles Manson’s followers should have been jailed. Nor should anyone that kills/attacks due to influence from ISIS, Islam, etc… should not be held responsible for his or her actions either………

Johnamos, the flock is trained to be subservient to the elders and the edicts of the Governing Body. Many parents who have turned in molesters leave the religion because they could see through it. But many more kneel before "Christ's Brothers" and do not want to rock the boat. So they burn their children to Moloch er, Jehovah, by staying silent believing that they should wait on him! So I would agree with you if they were not abuse victims themselves. Simple minds easily controlled.

If you have been whatsoever following the hearings, you will see that everyone on this board knows.

That THE FIRST THING that the parents of a victim MUST DO is talk to the elders.

Virtually every victim is told NOT to complain to the secular authorities, and to leave matters in Jehovah's hands. Otherwise, the victim will be disfellowshipped.

Not only is that the "OFFICIAL" position of WTS, it goes completely against the policies or laws of most modern countries.

This onus to report is EXPONENTIALLY stronger on persons in authority, i.e., (church leaders - elders).

INACTION is morally, ethically, and in most countries, legally, wrong.

If they(GB) ever got a summons to appear before this investigation and force some how to attend I think they would be on suicide watch for a long time afterward. I'm sure they are in some very deep doo doo and their insulation from the consequences is rapidly deteriorating I think these GB might be headed for the pen pretty soon along with other co conspirators from the legal department, and service department may even a few helpers to the Governing Body .

How would Australia handle criminal charges against a foreign person is there a way they could do this and bring these deluded clown to some sort of justice?

I do not think WT has painted in the corner in relationship to their members. Majority of the members do not care about pedophilia scandals and cover up, they will support the FDS all the way to the Armageddon. Many organizations had similar scandals, but often close-knit communities like WT will not admit mistake. They will blame the world, Satan, demons, victims, but never will acknowledge any wrong doing. And the JWs would support them and shield them. Organizations that went through shakeup under such issues were forced by own members, but this would not happen with average, brainwashed JW. WT knows it and this is all what it matters. The HQ may sacrifice couple pawns in the process, but I agree with flipper on this.

John Amos displays the lovely benefits of hindsight, missing the point that concerned parents have been repeatedly conditioned to take the word of appointed elders as loving and wise counsel in harmony with the truth. Don't run ahead of Jah's organization! Don't dare think you know better than the elders!

Oh that JW parents had been enabled to think critically and taught to put their children's wellbeing first! In hindsight so much becomes painfully clear. The disgusting elevation of the organization's reputation over children's wellbeing.

Besides, the GB claims a unique foothold on truth and asserts it is leading the way with Biblical principles. As the Bible verse says ( in paraphrase): If you claim much, much is expected of you. Exactly!!

With behavior like that, Jehovah must be thinking, "I can do without the sorts of Witnesses sleepwalking their way through that Commission of Inquiry, thank you very much!"

Ah sweet, lovely, instructive hindsight. Eyes opened after the event leaves a parent sadder but wiser but not as sad and lacking in wisdom as the many, many eyes of the rank and file stubbornly shut tight after the event. The folly of following men is writ large.

This is well warranted kick a*se time - and despite their claim they will soon be persecuted for advancing kingdom interests, how absolutely deserved instead that they are being publically shamed for doggedly downplaying the scale of the child-abuse problem within their hallowed halls.
